3 Year Old Niece In ICU (Hospitalised)
-
My niece has been transfered to NUH and Prof Quak Seng Hock is in charge.
If the transplant really takes place, both professors (Quak SEng Hock and Prabhakaran) will be there.
My niece’s condition is a paradox. The first day when she was admitted to KKH, she was almost sleeping all the time. Today, she is totally conscious and playing like a normal kid but her blood tests showed a worsening jaundice.
We know Gleneagle team led by Dr KC Tan. The transplant cost at Gleneagle will be $300K while it is about $100K before government subsidies at NUH. As for experience, NUH team seems to be have more experienced with children from 12months old to a few years old. -
Hi Weihan,
My son also ever warded in KKH ICU ward 10 years ago due to infection, so totally understand the anxiety and worried the parents and all loved ones around feel.
will keep your niece and family in prayers, stay strong! -
Hi WeiHan,
Just to share my own case and hope this would help your family not to worry too much. I also have liver problems and was at the ICU at NUH. My illness was so bad that I was at the edge of death. I was at the ICU for don’t know how many days and thanks to the top doctors, they managed to pull me back. 1 packet of blood was tranfused to me after I was out of the ICU.
To this day, I still want to thank the person whom I got the blood from and I even thought of donating my blood to the blood bank but I don’t think I can, based on my current condition. I still go for CT scans for my liver and is on medictaion. Other than that, I’m quite ok.My thanks to the top doctors, a nurse who has become friends and the dietian looking after me. -
Hi,
any updates on your niece. Really hope she’s recovering well. Take care!! -
Hi,
My niece had a successful liver transplant on the 13th April at NUH and has since been recovering well. The team was led by Prof Prabhakaran and Prof Quak who have done an excellent job. The members surgeons in the team were so confident with Prof Prabhakaran that they assured my sister she will definitely be impressed once we met him and indeed we are.
My niece maybe discharged from the hospital soon. Everything go well except that her bile duct maybe partially blocked or swollen, but it is nothing serious compare to her previous condition. -
So happy for your niece after your update. Yah!! :rahrah: :rahrah: :boogie:
She's really blessed for an uncle like you! -
Congrats Weihan! Excellent news indeed. Here’s hoping for her smooth and quick recovery!

Read this thread with heart wrenched…
Am so glad to read at the end that things are fine now. It is such a relief and may the little girl be blessed. -
Great news indeed. Weihan could you remind us again, how did this condition develop and what were the telltale signs so that we could all learn from this and act swiftly when things don’t seem right with our kids the next time round thanks
