:siam:[/quote]Don't need to worry for him la....his master already charted out his political career path....he is in his early 30s...excluding this BE, he still can fight for another GE...by then if he still can't take HG, he will probably say bye-bye HG, tag along with a minister in a GRC and receives his monthly $15k reward for his \"loyalty and hardwork\" in HG...by then, you will see whether he will drop tears for HG voters or not.... -

Hi Chen,
Re: numbers of unhappy parents vs unhappy.
Precisely as you said, we don’t know! I don’t know exactly how many parents are happy and how many are unhappy.
What I said was "For every parent complaining and making noise about education, there MIGHT be another 2 whose kids are happy and enjoying school".
So i’m not about to speak for parents of singapore if I don’t know roughly how many are happy and unhappy what…
And more importantly, I don’t even know for what reasons they are unhappy with the education of singapore. Is it for the right reasons or for the wrong reasons?
How many people took the polls here? Are they statistically reliable? Does the poll here reflect the situation in the whole of singapore? I don’t know, that’s why I would never speak collectively for the parents of singapore.
---------------------------------------------------------
I’ve never paid much attention to what MOE says, honestly…
Did they say PSLE standard never went up? Frankly, it doesn’t matter much to me either way, as long as I know my kids are not studying solely for the purpose of PSLE.
Your Question was : who truly believed that PSLE standards did not rise over the years?
So i answered, Yes, from what i observed, it has gone up, as it should.
eg. Maths syllabus today requires more thinking and logic skills. I think that’s great.
New methods like models and heristics are being taught to help students learn how to think in different ways. I think that’s great too.
So exams standard changes to cater to the students’ new skills level. Seems legit.
------------------------------
No no no I don’t own any Ipad / tablet whatever and neither do my kids.
I am just giving one example of what students nowadays can use for learning, compared to say 20 years ago.
(This is what I said:
The process of Learning is getting more fun. (Ipad!) The sharing of knowledge-related resources is getting so easy with better books and the TV and internet.)
I didn’t say i have an ipad. I only meant it’s a device that can make learning fun for some people. But yes I have a TV and internet and the public library has lots of good books, so of course nobody NEEDS an ipad if they really want to learn.
Honestly, I am not one of the so-called privileged few. We are just an Average family.
We live in HDB that hasn’t been renovated in 20 years, and I’m an SAHM, no maid, so DIY most things myself. I don’t own a single condo, branded bag, LV or Jimmy Choo or whatever… I’ve never been to Europe or US for holiday… I’ve never stepped into a spa, and the last time i went to a beautician was for my wedding day and that’s like 15 years ago… Oh wait, i think all that just made me below average in singapore… :x
----------------------------------------------------------
Of course, there’s nothing wrong with wanting better textbooks and better resources.
But in singapore there are so many resources available all around us! From my house alone (HDB) i can count a total of 5 public libraries that can be reached by a bus journey of about 30min.
We don’t believe in spoonfeeding right? We believe a little hardship is character-building, right? We believe in reading beyond the textbooks right? We don’t believe in learning just for PSLE right? So just look for whatever resources that inspires and interests our kids, and PSLE will take care of itself.
------------------------------------------
I repeat, I am not top of the heap. In fact, you just made me realize i’m somewhere lower than average.
And I am generally very patient with people. I just don’t have much for people who complains too easily rather than try to do something to make the best of the situation.
If you (of all people) want to call me highly-educated, I am very flattered, really.
But it’s all relative, right? I don’t even have a PhD or MBA.
And a cute smile is very powerful wor… i think CSM’s smile can 一笑倾城 …
ps. got to do housework now… so might not answer your post, if any. Sorry in advance… take care.
