A friend's cousin's DD was asked to leave SCGS primary when she cannot make the grade in the primary school.......She was transferred to neighbourhood school......Cold. ...But this is how the school can maintain standards.

In primary school? Was she asked to leave bec of academics or some other reason? I find it hard to believe that the school would do that in primary school.

NYPS yes. NYPS will kick the child out if the child did not match their academics standard.

It is about demand and supply also. If I can score eg. > 250 you think I still want scgs ? Or if I have > 260 I already ‘cheong’ to Raffles. All the nanyang schools eg NYPS, nygh or even ny kindergarten are all highly in demand and they can set very stringent stds. It is like you ask the stallholder to raise price to shorten the quene but you need to know other stall condition and your food before you raise price.

which year ? which level ? under which principal ?

from what we know, even when the child managed a t-score of 98 eventually was never kicked out. there were also some managed to get into normal tech but was never kicked out.

that is a serious allegation

Are you very sure? I have never heard of this in the last six years. I have never heard of someone been asked to leave for academic or behaviour reasons.

I had heard of 2 cases from NY but we have to be careful with the terms used. I don't think any school is allowed to ask any kid to leave. What I understand is the school will counsel the parents, analyse with them the situations. It's still the parents' decision at the end of the day.

is the child showing signs of learning difficulty struggle ?
in some Hokkien Huey Kuan affliated SAP schools -
if a child face learning difficulty can't cope, the child may be asked to transfer to a slower paced, less stressful academic school with support from Allied Educators around, to help the child cope better.

Thought all schools have Allied Educators? Education Minister said all schools are good and have the required teaching resources. Why is there a need to transfer then? Isn't it clear in this case some schools are higher in standard than others, some don't have the required resources or not willing to cater to the weaker students? So the \"elite\" schools will always be \"elite\" and the less popular schools will always have more weaker students?

Why is there a need to transfer then?

Currently, not all schools have ready Allied Educators around or helper assistant designated inside each class to handle children with learning disability. Some schools have, some not yet, some don't. Or in some cases, if problem lies with child, Allied Educators may not help much. Every child is different, unique. Some parents may be approached to transfer out their child, if their child can't cope in that particular school, with lots of heavy school work / homework.

Thus, it is better for parents to find out first, before enrol their child into the school.
