-
The conversation topic is about an activity you have participated. As the picture consist of some charity drive..my DS had came up with only 1 idea...he said that school had hosted a charity drive :slapshead: Not sure if the examiners might think he has ran out of ideas..

Today's English oral was pretty hard. Reading was okay. In the picture there's a lady buying fish balls on a stick, boy crying because his balloon burst and a student is giving another one to him.
At the other side there's a man taking cookies after donating some money. Conversation was extremely easy! :cheeky: They asked about an event hosted by our school. At least it's the last oral examination in Primary School. :rahrah:
Glad to hear that. Enjoy your long weekend. -

my son talked about how he did not do well for his exams last lear but i did not scold him, therefore he was relieved and happy. All a lie, when he did not do well, i scolded him very badly. Btw his question was what made you happy.
Happy moment can be a wide topic. The kids can talk about birthday party, won a writing competition, visit to Disneyland or Universal Studio. Maybe today topic is easier for him - school activity. Not all kid's remember their happy moments or they might take these moments for granted. -

According to my son, the man is buying the cookies. They are selling cookies to raise fund for the charity. My son said the crying boy has lost his parents. He was holding a stick of food. The student saw him crying & gave him a ballon. Same picture might mean different things to different kids. Wonder how the examiner grade the kids. -
mummy so kiasu:
The boy was clearly not holding a stick of food as well... he wasn't? The girl was just giving him another balloon to replace that. :Ltanjd:

think each of our dc will interpret it differently. We will also never know if dc got it right or wrong and neither can we dispute on it. I just ask DS what's the pic, what did he say .... and finally, how he felt about his own performance (on both days). Happy?? Satisfied?? Oral over, let him play for the day and get ready for next hurdle

Yup. Every child can have their own interpretation so long as they can support their observation with logic expression.
Oral is over, match on ... ... -
Anyone knows what was the picture for the 2nd day Chinese Oral?

It was an old folks home. -
When it comes to the grey areas of PSLE Oral picture discussion, its a matter of being able to justify and explain your interpretation. Kids interpret pictures in various ways, sometimes its difficult to decide if the interpretation is accurate...
However, in those gray incidences, what definitely helps is the kid's ability to justify and explain why interpretation the picture in that particular manner. By doing so, it shows the examiner that you have thought through your interpretation and also showcases your oratorical skills at the same time. At the same time though, it might be useful to have kids learn that when it comes to race and ethnicity, if they are unsure about the ethnicity or right description of the traditional ethnic costume, don't commit! The kid might unwittingly offend the examiner.
