aamama - What? The belt is now sewn on? Really? Hard to picture it. Yes, I tend to lose my belts last time. Sometimes the belt colour and uniform colour might not match if I used an old belt with a new uniform.

Would love to be involved in the school activities and volunteering to help out. Would parents who are working be able to contribute too or are the activities mainly during school hours?

Realsimple : The belt is sewn at the back. So they still need to velcro n hook it in the front.

There are various help needed in the school, some help in library; CCA; reading program; canteen etc… Then there is another one - adhoc. They help in whatever events the school have n require help. They’re all during school hours. There are SAHMs as well as working parents. Won’t force you to help at every event, that’s what volunteering is about anyway. But I must say I do enjoy myself helping out in the school once in a while. The girls are really sweet, some will stop running and greet you. Then the girls in your dd’s class know you also. My girl likes me to be in her school and a few times ‘volunteered me in class first’ and then tell me later. Sabo me!! when I get to know the girls, it kindda made me appreciate my dd n realize whatever silly behavior she does at home is seen in some other girls. Coz she’s my firstborn I’m always learning to be a parent.
There used to be Contact Time on Wednesdays. Not every week though, haven’t heard abt it for quite awhile now too so not sure if still ongoing.   One mummy will teach something eg. once we fried some noodles ; another time a creative mom taught us to scrapbook. We come together to talk abt anything; thru that we share n learn from the older girls parents. Received so many tips from them.

Anyway, during Orientation Day the CPC group will be there to recruit more parents.

          Chris Anthony:

My daughter is only due to register for P1 in 2013 and I am also considering CHIJ Katong. I read all the thread and the common themes seems to be that the school provides a balance between academic demands and building the character of the student. Could any parents with kids still in IJ share how the school and its Catholic based education has help to shape your child cope with the crazy demands of a results based society focusing on exam success and fantastic grades?

          Apprciate any advise.

My daughter will be going to IJ Katong next year and my son is currently in Maris Stella. One thing I realise is whether my child faces academic stress is very much dependant on how anxious I want him to excel. If I am fine with him not being in the top 5% of his cohort, not being a prize winner for any subject, I don't even bother if he fails his tests and exams, he will be alright. So, how a child cope will depends on how much stress we give them.

How is CHIJ Katong Convent academic standing today
(compared with other “All Girls” School) ?

I’ve submitted waiting list form for my daughter for primary 3. How are the chances to get into this school. Appreciate any advice on this.

My daughter has scored A* in primary 1 & 2 and also excels well in co-curricalar activities.

Hi, my niece also got into KC and I am very happy for her....

Can any mummy share their experience when DD was in P1? Is it necessary to go for P1 prep-class? I heard some of the sch, their teacher go through the lesson as if the children already know. Pretty much like a revision.

Is it the case in KC?
My DD is currently in P6 of IJ Katong. I think she has thoroughly enjoyed herself there.
She went to P1 without undergoing any P1 prep course although I have been advised to send her to 1. I am a firm believer of allowing the school a chance to teach and giving the child a chance to learn from her school teacher.
6 years on, I do not think she has been disadvantaged. She is on par with other P6s who may also have gone for the course.
IJ Katong takes in students with learning disabilities therefore I do believe the school will cater to students from all abilities.
So do not worry and allow her to enjoy her school life there.

I am currently in Marine Parade and most likely will be moving to Simei after a year-2014.

We're staying at Pasir Ris, my daughter is starting next year and yes... we're horrible for making her travel that far to go to school.

                    Don't understand your question really...

On another note, any parents received any letters from the school to purchase books/ uniforms/ arrange for transport yet? Or is everything going to be done on orientation day?

Heard from a couple of friends who are sending their kids to other schools that some schools have that sort of arrangement that they can go down on weekdays to sort those stuff out. Beats rushing with the crowd on 17 November I guess.

Thanks for your reply!! I am currently in marine parade and will be registering my dd for 2014 P1. As I will be moving to Simei in the second half of 2014, I am worried that she would have travel to school so far.

How long does the commute take for her?
