I suppose cannot cry unfair because the kids are exposed to things that most children are not exposed to and the mainstream kids will cry unfair as well cos they don't learn those things. It is designed such that GEPPers are supposed to be able to cope with both mainstream exam and the GEP exam. If not, then should raise to GEP committee to let P6s GEPPERS start revision earlier if their curriculum is unrealistic to cope with demands of PSLE instead of looking for a different exam in PSLE.

      Hi ks2me,
Yap u are right that is one of the alternatives...but i believe some parents would have raise this question before to school or moe...anyway is not very big issue the reason for me to raise up this topic is that i get to know a p6 kid who is not born in Singapore and beat all the gepers in his/her school and were boasting around.... so want to 'stand up/ta bao bu pin' for Singaporean kids thats all...

        vlim:
I was wondering would p6 GEPers have a different set of exams to the psle as GEPers do not had the time to really start revising for psle till mid yr of p6 so is kind of unfair to them when their psle results are being compare to mainstream top scorers ..

in fact, my gal's sch only finsihes the P6 syllabus ard June, (for most subj) and
as for science, it goes beyond June, just b4 the prelim. fr what i heard fr her teacher, most schools wil rush to finish the syllabus by June.....( that 's why they need to go back to school during the June hoildays.). the revision only started just before the prelim......so called \"revision\" are just simply giving out past years prelim papers and some top schools papers which could be easily purchased fr outside. so be it GEP (fr what u mentioned) or non GEP, the timing for revision is ard the same, no measurable advantage. i would say the adv goes to GEP pupils who are exposed to greater depth and knowledge compared to NON GEP.

        csc:
vlim, both groups sit for the same psle paper.

As for why some GEPers do not do as well as the mainstreamers - the reason is not so much due to the preparation process but the individual capability of the student.

A GEP student may not be gifted in all subjects , he or she may be gifted in Math n Science and weak in languages whereas a mainstream student may be strong in all subjects - that accounts for the difference in the scores.JMHO
yes, it all boils down to the individual's preparation/capability for the psle revision rather than the sch.........in fact more likely to say ,
\" when, WE, PARENTS, starts the preparation??\"

As for this year it is not only the top scorer but in general GEP schools did not do as well...

Exam results really hard to say, last 2 years RGPS did not show much results on the PSLE top charts, this year it strikes back with alot of achievement. If you ask me why GEPPERS generally may not go for the chart ranking is becos most of them already have a DSA school confirmed and most of them would like to chill off when it comes to PSLE preparation, it may not be a bad thing to do as that way they will pace themselves better for the entire education process.

Honestly, if there is not enough detail analysis by relevant source made to understand a problem statement, everything we discuss here would be mere speculation and inconclusive.

            Hi vlim,

Wah this kid sounds really obnoxious in his behaviour and I cannot help but feel a tinge of sourness in this kid. At the end of the day, if majority gets into GEP honestly, barring those trained ones, it will only reflect badly on this child, no need a separate exam to bring out his naiveness and lack of self-esteem. Also, you may not know, this child may be a victim of a real case of giftedness but got ousted out by wealthy parents who send their kids to $6000 worth of GEP training?

Everyone needs an outlet for their cry of unfairness....so let this child be, if he continues his way, I am sure he will have to eat the humble pie one day.

Wah vlim, you very patriotic leh :rahrah: :rahrah:
U boey song? Cool down, cool down. Have a cup of tea.
Acquiring fullness of knowledge necessarily requires an understanding of humility.
So this kid, though he does well in one exam; he is not there yet.

Teach your kid well, and she/he may yet surpass him.
Also teach this kid if you have the chance - he may well become a Singaporean one day, you know.
Having a different PSLE exam for GEPers is not the solution.
This kid sounds like a bit of a sour grape. We are above that, aren't we? Sure we are, we're Singapore. Have a cup of tea. :celebrate:

There were cases whereby gifted students were identified during P3 GEP screening but bcos of some reasons (distance, worry about stress, financial… etc) they did not join the GEP. But when come to P6 some were among the top students. To certain extend, the GEP system is quite accurate in identifying gifted students. But we also have to agree that no system is 100%.

No leh... 2007 and 2008 top PSLE kids are GEPPERS, only this year. So don't lose heart.. GEPPERS ability to cope might be better than we know.

Not true. The GEP cohort in RGPS did well.

I know of a GEPer who used to top, if not 2nd, for all four subjects in the sch and was overall first consistently, even among GEPers. Many expected him to top PSLE but he did not, not even in his sch. But if you ask me, I believe he is truly gifted- so bright and I trust he would shine in future. I don't think PSLE measures everything. The foreign students are also a yr or two older than our local. So being more matured and hardworking, some do perform better.

My cousin, a GEPer, only scored 25+ in his PSLE some years back though he is extremely brilliant. He was selected for training for both Physics and Chemistry Olympaid but ultimately chose Chem and won a medal at the international competition. His weakness- Chinese is the cause of his 25+ for PSLE. He is now offered admission to Cambridge, MIT and Harvard. I'm sure many who scored better than him in PSLE did not fare as well as him when the learning becomes more in depth and abstract.

You have mentioned that your cousin was offered admission to Cambridge, MIT and Harvard. I am curious to know whether your cousin apply to these universities or otherwise :? ..
