      Hi! aaaaaa,

Thanks for sharing. My DD will be joining LP Next year. (P3) Hope I can see improvement in her comprehension. She is rather weak in this area.
I guess as parents sometimes we just need to \"trial and error\" hopefully to get the best of the best! Well, a lot of Parents from KS forum sing praises for TAS but it didn't work for me and hence, what benefits me but not benefits all. Hopefully we can hear from genuine parents giving their honest feedback for sharing. Hope this helps!

        Ran1977:
Hi dear, what is the assessment for LP Headstart for P1 like?

        How is the child assessed?
Is this simple or complicated considering that these kids are just in K1.
        i)
for assessment into LP \"HeadStart for P1\" (for K2 kids) -
        it is quite simple.

after Teacher ask your child to read a few short pages from a simple reader, Teacher then proceed to ask a few questions, to test compreh.
If your child can answer compre, Teacher then proceed to ask parent -
can your child show me how to write a full complete sentence, starting with a Capital letter and end with full stop ?

if your K1 child can do all above -
then should be able to clear assessment into K2 class.
        overall is quite simple.

if the kindergarten K1 teachers had taught your child Phonics properly and your child able to read simple storybook - shouldn't be an issue; dun worry.

        ii)
but for entry assessment into P1 class -
        the expectation is higher.

general feedback received is that most kids got stuck at writing compo part.
They can't / don't know how to begin writing a composition, when they came to sit for assessment.

Kids usually fail at composition part or poor in grammar rules; hence some couldn't clear entry assessment into P1 PIE (\"Progress in English\") class, recently. As such, still got vacancies for 2013 P1 classes. (at this point)

          aaaaaa:
I have tried couples of English enrichment centres like creative horizons, writers place, TAS and Learning Point. Personally, I find LP the best and can see her improvements in grades on English for both papers. Hence, I am happy that she is in LP and glad that I do not have to switch centres anymore!

I guess as parents sometimes we just need to \"trial and error\" hopefully to get the best of the best! There were some parents from my child's class. They sent their child concurrently to LP + TAS / I Can Read / Creative Horizon / TWP, etc.
They are not sure which programme suit their child best, so they're willing to try out minimal one Term, see how it progress along.

some fathers prefer LP, while some mothers may prefer TAS. They can't come to a common conclusion. So they let the child attend both. After one or two Term after obtain feedback on their kid's progress from respective teachers and reviewing worksheets their child had done (see which programme emphasize on what area), they'll know which enrichment suit their child better. Then slowly, they'll drop off one. What suit one child may not suit another. eg: one child may be weak in grammar, good in compreh. Another child may just be the other way round - strong in grammar, but weak in compreh, bec may come from a different family environment where exposure to language(s) play a part daily.

Hi! Agreed. My DD has attended many other centers, too. I hope this is the right one for her. Normally , I will let her stay with the centre for about a year because I can understand that it does take time to see improvement.

            Hi! Phtthp,

Thanks for your information . In fact, I just happen to browse through this forum and decided to give it a try. I hope it works for my DD . I have a younger one going to K2 next year. I am thinking of let him try out also… But they do not have my prefered time slot.

Does anyone know what are the areas tested on for P5 Entry Test? What is the duration of the test? Is the test very difficult? Appreciate your feedback… Thanks!

LP stretches the children more especially if your child is selected for the GIE program. My niece is in the program, I like the materials and hoping that my kids will be recommended for it.

MindStretcher does not offer any \"Gifted\" English programme, unlike Learning Point.

                      just to share -
had a friend whose P2 son attended MindStretcher (MS) English Creative Writing class this year. After enrol her son in MS for one term, she took him out and transfer him to another centre. I asked her why ? She replied - MS introduced too many \"bombastic\" words, which she think is not necessary. She said made the essay like become a bit too \"qua zhang\" if intro too many \"bombastic\" words. She said the flow of essay must be natural, and only intro \"bombastic\" words sparingly, at the right suitable time.

                      back to LP -
for those whose kid did not get into \"GIE\" - don't be disheartened.
There are kids from \"PIE\" (\"Progress in English\") recommended to go to \"GIE\", if teacher feel that your child is ready for it. However, teacher said that to qualify for GIE, the child's Grammar & Compreh must be very strong.
The requirement is that your child not only need to read, but more impt is - read with understanding. Because there's a lot of inference involved, in the questions asked.

                      example:
there are some P1s initially only qualified for PIE.
because when they took the test that time, child not sure what's happening (a bit blur). But after spending a few term with LP, if your child show great improvement, teacher will recommend child to go \"GIE\", next new academic year.

on the other hand - also heard that there are some kids already in GIE programme, but for some reason or other, parents prefer to transfer their child go back to PIE instead.
Think the best is still ask the GIE teacher (before you sign up ) - what is the main difference in curriculum, between GIE and PIE ?

any parent whose child had gone through lower primary P1 / P2 @ Learning Point ?

Do you see any improvement in your child's English written skill(s) todate
                        ?

heard that P1 / P2 LP programme focus 50 % of her bulk on creative writing composition.
the remaining 50 % focus on compreh, grammar, cloze & oral.
Thank you very much, for kind precious feedback.

all outsider candidates are required to take an entry assessment test, to assess your child's English proficiency level, about 45 minutes to 1 hour - test your child readiness on:-
grammar, cloze passage(s), compreh and compo. Make sure you prepare you child or else you have to try 6 mths later.

LP (Thomson Plaza) is open from Mon - Sat.
LP (Simei) is closed on Mon, open from Tue - Sat.

both branches are closed on Sun, Public holiday(s).

perhaps due to recent MOE announcement on new changes to 2015 PSLE English language paper -
LP noted a surprise surge or an increase in demand in the number of 2013 P1 classes, as compared to previous past years. Many parents keen to lay a strong foundation, the earlier the better, instead of nearing towards P5 / P6.
                        phtthp,

Are you looking at thier P1 English or Maths program? I'm looking at thier Maths program in which again they said the child have to take a placement test. English P1 are all on a long waiting list.
