Jiang Education Centre - Discussion

holiday program is optional but teacher will pressure kids to pressure us parents but I will deal directly with teacher instead of having the kids to tell teacher we are not joing the class. Holiday lessons are good for those who are weak in certain areas & families with deep pockets & ample time with own transport/driver to fetch kids around.
3 weeks per topic S$450+ maybe just comprehension; if compo is included, will be another 2 hours same 3 weeks etc. (15 lessons - 5 days a week x 2 hours everyday) - ie. cannot be away for 3 full weeks. Everyday have to fetch kids there & return.
Another point is that registration is open for existing students 1st should child want to retain the same class day/time slot; Usually before the exam even started; then 2nd for existing students who wish to change their day/time slots & then finally for other new students. Once you paid up in Sep/Oct, you are guaranteed a place Commitment is there. -

can recommend your private tutor for chinese, mine is pri3 girl next year. thanksngl2010:
My son attended Jiang for 6 months in P5 and I have to say that we were disappointed with the result. His result dipped from 80+ to 60+. Now after we stopped and got a private tutor instead, his result is back to 80+.
The classroom is so big (at least 20 students) and so cramped....
Pm you. -
My kids just started at Jiang earlier in Sep. For the holiday programs, my kids just brought back the schedule. For my K2 son, as the teacher is with them when we pick them up, she just asked me once and I told her that both parents are working and hence not possible to send them for 2-3 hrs classes during hols. For my P2 daughter, I asked her to explain to the teacher and even when i bump into the teacher b4/after class, no mention of signing up for the holiday programs. So I din experience any "pressure" from either teachers.
My P2 daughter’s year end grade improved tremendously after just 1.5mths lesson with them. We were quite happy and will be letting her continue in P3. -
Can someone please share about their secondary school chinese enrichment prog?
Thank you! -

My DD is P1 this year and is attending Jiang for the 3hr class. She said she hated the class as its alot of drilling ( ie writing and not much activities) and she also complained that 3 hours is toooooo long. She was in Berries since Nursery till K2 so i guess the change in style of teaching as well as environment depresses her. My DS, K1 this year also switched from Berries to Jiang and he loves the class, even volunteered to tell me a story from the textbook after his first lesson.
Now i do not know what i shd do about my DD as i am afraid that if i forced her to continue in Jiang for mother tongue, it will kill her learning spirit for the language, which, to begin with, was already very limited.

becknat68,
you monitor your girl for another one month, or so. Hopefully she’ll get used to Jiang, by end of 1 month. She only started the first lesson so far in end Dec 2012, so is still very new. If after one month if she still dislike, either trsf her back to Berries (Berries P1 standard also good / high), or transfer her over to the 1.5 hours Jiang (1.5 hrs is still shorter than 3 hrs). After she get used to Jiang 1.5 hrs three or six months later, then transfer her back to Jiang 3 hrs, it may be easier.
reason is because yr dau has grown so used to Berries method of teaching. Spending 3 yrs there from N2 to K2 is been a long time. Moreover, Berries method of teaching kids is more fun and lively type. Jiang method of teaching - even to K1 / K2 kids, is traditional classroom based, more the "drilling" type. Your son likes Jiang, bec Jiang was his first Chinese enrichment centre, as he had never attended Berries before. Different exposure for kids, different result. -
maybe you can discuss with the teacher, that happened to my boy before.
i wrote an email telling them to make the lesson more fun rather than just drilling. the next following lesson actually was better, and my boy no longer complain. He has been with them, the 3hour class, for 3years. -

Hi phttph,
my son was with berries for 2 years but he never really displayed interest in chinese the way he did in Jiang. perhaps different child, different stroke.
Yea, I will continue to observe for another month or so and decide if i shd take her out and put her in 1.5hr session. I just wonder if most kids who did berries and trf to Jiang has the same problem anot? My DD said the teacher was gg q fast and no breaks in between. She was gg nuts with the long hours .

hi Always21,
Wh level was your son when he first join Jiang? My DD said she cried in the class and the teacher asked her to 闭嘴. i was quite appalled by it given that she was saying it to a new student who is only P1.
Did you email the teacher in English or Mandarin?
