      Hi Mummyofthree,

Yes thanks. I am getting in a full-time tutor today for maths.

Damn ex tho.....$45 an hour because she is an ex-MOE teacher.
This one got to trial and error. Try out the tutor and see how. Maybe can ask your daughter for some feedback.

Happened to chance upon this thread today. I am in same position as kaitlynangelica.

kaitlynangelica - My DS has the same behaviour as your DD. On top of that, he is v obedient boy in terms of completing my hw everyday. We completed a pile of past years papers in preparation of SA2, yet his results were still disappointing (Band 3 for Maths, CL, Sci and Band2 for EL).

Anyway, I told myself that this is just one of the many exams. What is done is done. so long effort is put in, we have to move on from here and continue to find the best way out to motivate him.

          whoa!

I enjoy KSP but sometimes realized when I read too much of it, will get stress! Super stress and sometimes a little depressed cause there are so many super "on" parents in KSP.

DS1 will be in P3 next year. His results for P2 is lousy to some or most parents (Band 2 for English & Maths and Band 3 for Chinese) But I am okay with it cause DS1 does not have any tuition…yet. Actually I hope no tuition til DH and I really cannot cope with it.

Parents, at times, take back and relax. I mean when we were young like in primary schools, what were most of us doing? It is really not the end of the world if our kiddos does not get Band 1 every year! Sometimes I have to search my heart truefully and will want to ask parents whether their kids results really matter so much or more so because of their "face" (parents’ face) matter more.

Our education system don’t have to be so stressful if parents are more relaxed but saying so, I know it wun happen cause it is already quite deeply embedded.

You have to put on filters to stay objective. Previously when I read about parents who are reading to their kids and getting their kids to start reading at like 3yrs old, I too wonder if my kids were slow.

But here in this thread most of the parents are talking about their kids scoring band 3 grades, none are even talking about band 1. There is always that worry that if at lower primary, where the work should be easier, the kid is getting band 3 grades, if nothing is done to correct poor attitudes, by upper primary, it may mean failing grades. It is not about ‘face’. No parents will just sit by and do nothing if they think that there is some way to guide their kids on their.

              hi Funz

Yes, you are right, I have to put on filters to stay objective. Though reading too much of KSP does give me stress, I will still continue to read cause there are so much helpful information and tips that overcome the stress 😉

I don't think it is poor attitudes for lower Primary kids. What do kids know at 7, 8 or 9 years old? It is more of parents' work. Mine is a good example, totally leave Chinese to school, I did not guide son much and his results clearly showed, just passed. Maths & English guided him, English short of 1 mark will be band 2. So I can't help but wonder, who is the one studying? Parents or the kids?

Ok, there are some kids who can self motivate themselves at P1, normally they \"scare to lose\" catergory. But majority of the kids? If we totally just leave it to the schools, without tuition, without parents' help, how will they be faring?

                HI all,

My son is P3 this year and his CA1 result is not good compare to his P2 result. He got English and Chinese - Grade 3 and Maths + Science Grade 2 compared to P2 - Grade 1 and 2

Is this normal for P3 starter?

Dont be discourage. I think its normal. From now to SA1, ask yr ds to work hard and play during school holiday. I told my dd she has to work hard for SA1, if the result is good, she can play the whole time during June holidays. Otherwise I will swap her with assessment books during June holiday. She seems to be serious, remember to do her homework, wrote a good Chinese Compo, etc

A routine needs to be worked out. With my own kid, I work out a study schedule for him. I’m not there to supervise him all the time. Every night only have time to clear doubts for homework then he needs to sleep already. His homework must be done before I reach home.

agree with TheAnswer.I believe in regular revision, easier for him to catch up also.

My boy doesn’t do homework automatically, except Science n Maths. I’ve to sit besides to monitor him,if not,he’ll move ard.

Everyday,I allocate 1hour to do quick revision. If he has homework n tuition, then no revision. But there’ll be 2 to 3hours revision every wkend PM.

TheAnswer, who take care ur boy when u r out?

I dont supervise much and dont assign extra hw for my kid as I believe they already have a lot from school. The CA1 results show she’s still doing ok (compared to cohort mean and she has maintained that lead). This should be fine right? No need to be too KS right? My kids have no tuition (except Chinese creative writing). I dont want to add pressure to her for nothing.
