Where do you normally advertise?Didnt like the experience so I advertised for my own students.
Rates are low and assignments are usually fastest fingers first. You would have to communicate with the coordinator and wait for their repeated calls as they try to negotiate for timing as and when a assignment comes in. Besides that, one would have to pay the 50% commission for the first month, and that means whatever is left usually only pays for the transportation.
By advertising on my own, I can find students whom are willing to pay for prices which I think Im worth rather than waiting for an assignment that pays that amount or trying to \"bargain\" with coordinators for higher prices. Apparently my self advertising is much cheaper and I have saved several hundreds in the process. Definitely less hassle, more accomplishment and better response. -

Do you look up Straits Time Classifieds?

What happened?Finding the right tutor is abt chemistry.
I once thot that I found the best tutor, ex-school teacher with a passion for math........wot a mis-match. I wouldn't go to her even if she tutors for free....
I prefer tutor who will take time to understand a child's weakness and tailor the program for each .... possible to get that in yr matching service?

Wonder if are there really so many word of mouth cases? And if there are indeed really accurate? As individual kid’s learning pace and weaknesses are unique and the same tutor might not be able to meet the requirements.
If it’s so good, tuition agencies would have gone out of business already.
So I think parents will still go to tuition agencies. -
Would like to hear how do other parents assess the results/performance of the tutor? Does slight improvement in results (< 5%) after 5 months of tutoring considered "positive results"? What is a reasonable amount of improvement we can expect from a 1-1 tutor?
I have a chinese tutor for my DS (P5) since June. Though its from recommendation (and apparently quite highly raved by her other students), there is no significant improvement in my DS results. She kept telling us my DS is clever, with her guidance PSLE sure can do well blah blah blah promising the sky, sun & moon, but after 5 months my DS results for SA2 only improved by ard 3% and is still in the 60+%… dunno if i should trust her and continue or switch tutor before its too late? -
Hi, in my opinion. 3% is very minimum. My tutor was from recommendation too. Before i hired her, she gurantee improvement in grammar section within 10 lessons and now my dd scores full marks for all grammar question. I think you should seriously think of changing.
Chinese is the easiest to score in psle. must make sure your dd gets A. -
For mine, although it’s tuition centre, I still keep track. Anyway, the centre always have monthly test set for my girl so I know how much she has improved. Her maths is her weakest…problem sums and fractions her biggest nightmare. Now she can get 16/20 instead of 5/20 in the past. Overall improved by 15 marks.
Tutor/teacher must communicate with parent…i get monthly feedback from the centre so i can monitor my girl too:)
