I feel like Popeye here......too many cans and bottles, cannot catch already http://www.flickr.com/photos/lunzerland/5943237887/
LOL. We're not here to change the world now, are we? 🙂 It's good enough to know that there are sensible people out there that we can always rely on to balance the madness.

BTW... that Popeye game stole hundreds of hours from my teen aged years.

What is meant by illegal strike? Which strike is legal in Singapore?

              This

              http://www.singapore-window.org/sw00/000310a4.htm
You became head of the NTUC and also remained a cabinet minister -- and Singapore remained strike free.

Yes. But in January 1986 I did sanction a strike, the first for about a decade. It was in the shipping industry where the management was taking advantage of the workers. I did not even tell the cabinet about santioning the strike. And some of them were angry with me about that. The minister for trade and industry was very angry, his officers were very upset. They had calls from America, asking what happened to Singapore? -- we are non-strike. I said: if I were to inform the cabinet or the government they would probably stop me from going ahead with the strike. It only lasted two days. Then all the issues were settled. It showed that management was just trying to pull a fast one. So I believe what I did was right.
:goodpost: thanks Limlim. This is a good read. For some reason, late president ong is one of the few politicians who has a (small but) special place in my heart.

SMRT said unlike bus drivers from Malaysia who are permanent employees, the Chinese are on a two-year contract with different terms. While their starting pay is lower, they get accommodation, utilities and transport to work.

The Malaysians have to endure the long and tiring journey to and fro everyday...and it's no joke at the causeway. The Chinese are provided with accommodation and transport...do they know how expensive it is to have a roof over the heads here in SINGAPORE?
One female Chinese mentioned being bitten by rats and space constraint in their dormitory. Even then, they should be telling respective person in charge and not go on strike. Totally illogical !!!
