River Valley High School [*IP]

I would if I could, but I can’t, and I don’t want to, but the official news sources provided all the info needed at the moment. I shall not say more unless the school gives permission to.
-
You can find the lights in the mainstream and sidestream media. Whatever need to be reported would be reported. A school is not all about P. it is a big family make up of students, teachers, non teaching staffs, parents, very caring security uncles, friendly canteen stall aunties and cleaner aunties…

Just wounder does it has anything got to do with the IPad programe.

many issues to wonder here – Li Ning, Ipad, building improvements, old JJC dealings…; not sure how much his buddies high up in MOE could help him this time.
As a parent of my child in this school, he is a disgrace to the good name of RVHS; all the good years and accomplishments put in by the school is tarnished by him.
He has no respect for the teachers, students and parents; good dedicated teachers left, only his cronies from JJC would suck up to him.
HCI done the right thing to kick him out of their school early in his career, however, the RV alumni sitting in the board must certainly be all sleeping and let this guy trash the good name of the school. -

Totally agree with the above points. Evertime I go for parent meeting, he is just :censored:

Wounder how the new P is going to restore the demage. -

The alumni of a government school unlike independent school has no admin power to negotiate with MOE for a principal candidate. That is one of the shortcoming of a government school.

HCI managed to discontinue his contract because an opportunity arised due to implementation of IP...no school will veto MOE under normal circumstances. -
RVHS:
My prediction has come true.WeiHan:
I predict that RV's COP this year will be 255 or even 256.
During P talk yesterday, Mr Koh mentioned RV COP will increase.
But consider 800 more IP places this year, it is unlikely
If better A level results coming...then maybe 257 coming. -
WeiHan:
I guess gov schools do not have a school board that has some executive power but most of them has a so-called School Advisory Committee (SAC). I am keen to know who are in the SAC of RV. Can anybody help?

RVHS is a SAP school, both English and Mother Tongue are taught as first language. Minimum requirement for annual promotion is grade B4 minimum for both languages.Poet2010:
Hi,
I am newbie here and would like seek good advice & help from current RVHS students/parents.
Kindly would you recommend RVHS for my son who did not take HMT-Chinese for PSLE 2012? He got T-score 257 and an A for MT-Chinese but this is his weakest subject and we have understood that HCL is a compulsory core subject in year 1.
Any suggestion if he really cannot cope with HCL? What is minimum requirement to pass the HCL in year 1?
BTW appreciate you could also help on the information of RVHS IP subjects combinations for year one and how much different from the O levels–Express stream?
:salute:
Student must exhibit a positive towards learning to take up the challenges in RV.
Additionally, students must achieve a GPA of 2.0. Refer to the school website for detailed information of the promotion criteria from Year 1 to 6.

IP track is a special educational path for students whom had endeavored to pursue further education with the universities. This indeed is a good route to take as this would enlighten the student in two areas;
1) they do not have to take the \"O\" level exams less the mother tongue for \"O\" level
2) they do not have to worry about which JC to further their \"A\" levels (not to worry about L1R5 and posting/selection)
The IP track is both challenging and interesting, subject combinations are more or less similar from Year 1 to Year 3, with the progression and changes in Year 4 to prepare the students for JC1 and JC2 in Year 5 and 6 respectively.
Cheers. Have A Great Evening@Poet2010
Many thanks to Poet201 for your quick information.
From RVHS website the Year 1 to 3 subject combinations are:
Core Subjects: 2 x Lang Arts + 1 or 2 x Maths + 2 x Science + 2 x Humanities + CID
Other Subjects: Y1 – 2: D&T, HE, IT
Y1 – 3: Aesthetics
Elective Subjects: 3rd Science, 3rd Humanities, 3rd Lang Arts
It is correct to say typically a year 1 student will have total 12 subjects + CID +optional elective subjects?
What are the CID components requirement and promotion criteria?
Thank you again.
Cheers.
To be exact, there are 6 examinable subjects for Year 1 & 2.
English Language Arts
Higher Chinese & Chinese Culture
Geography
History
Mathematics
Science (different modules - HSW/Phy/Bio/Chem - per term)
Assessment modes may include graded assignments, class tests, group projects, oral presentation, and eventually the End-of-Year Exams in Term 4.
(Note: One can be exempted provided he/she attains the required GPA and Language requirements.)
Full Exemption: GPA => 3.8, B4 for both ELA and HCL (The results for the year shall be what is reflected on the Progress Report in Term 3)
Partial Exemption: GPA => 3.5, exemption from subjects with CA Score (i.e. Terms 1 to 3) of 80 or above
The other subjects are graded based on A, B, C, etc.
CID is the abbreviation for Construct, Integrate, Differentiate. It is preparation for the Year 5 Project Work 'A' level subject. CID is examinable in Years 3 & 4.
Hope this helps.
