Hi Funz,

I am NOT referring to all.
I am saying kids who attend ah beng schools do not turn out ah beng....kids in branded schools do have humble and gracious parents too...but I have seen some kids and parents from popular schools who spout F words while some are arrogant and think the world of themselves.
Agreed. Nowsaday, F words don't only come from ah beng/ah lian school but come from many branded schools as well and even from girls' school. Dd attended a sch camp last year and surprisely heard many F words coming out from branded girls' sec school. Those girls said F words fluently and frequently while conversing with one another. 🤷

You can only do that much at home and also only in the 1st 12 years of a kid's life when they are mouldable. Beyond that, the social media, friends, environmental influence takes over. School can preach, sometime, the authorities also don't do what they preach, the kids find it phoney and get confused.

I believe that if the relationship between child and parents is good and there is mutual respect, parents can influence kids right into adulthood. I don't believe that it is necessary that \"social media, friends, environmental influence takes over\". I know families where the kids respect and value parental input even though the environmental influence is strong. I don't think it's impossible to influence our kids at home when they become teenagers. But I agree that teens are very critical of anything that smacks of hypocrisy, so we need to be sure that we set a good example ourselves or we will be ignored (and probably despised).

Yes, I agree with you that parents do not totally lose influence over the children after 12 yrs. But social media, friends, outside environmental immersion have a greater influence on them at that age. How they response to these external stimuli depends on the foundation we laid for them and the influence we have in their lives before 12.

Before 7, a kid needs the mother.
7-12, needs father (for boys)
after 12, he needs a mentor.

Teens need a mentor, can be a teacher, a relative or, an older sibling or friend or anyone he trust but not parents. They are very very tired of all the naggings for 12 years. They tend to listen to mentor more then parents in their teens. If you know his mentor, give your advice thru him, it works better. I mentor my nephew for my sis. He listens to me more 😂

At different stages of child’s life, parents have to react and communicate differently. Now that my boy has started sec school, I wish to be more of a buddy with him. I want him to see me as someone he can confide in. I discuss stuff with him. But this method cannot be applied to my younger daughter. What we say and do must match…or else kids will see adults as hypocrites…N.A.T.O

It was a Mr Bay from CPIB who said she was pregnant...that was last Apr.
Hmmm, did that bb belong to Tey ?
These people are so intelligent...former district judge and law professor...another one from top girls' school and college. Couldn't they put their IQ to better use ?

It is good MOE's priority in the years ahead will be to teach students about values and character so as to better prepare them for the 21st century. Hopefully this would change some schools' culture. Although calling a school \"creating competitive atas girls lacking finesse in social grace\" is a sweeping statement, the gereralisation would not be born without an iota of truth.
You mean both of them had sex with her?
proverb has it that when a child is born, that ill-mannered child doesn't have a mother who teaches.

Should be the opposite right..? If kid is lead astray.. they are taught to be so..

As the saying goes.. 人之初,性本善。

But it isn't fair to the parents...supposing the parents have taught well but the child is blinded by greed.
I want to believe all children are born kind and good natured, hence I subscribed to the idea of 人之初性本善。Some children do not have parents who lead by good examples. Children don't learn from what parents teach all the time, they learn thru observation of the surroundings too. I know of folks who has awful parents, but they turn out very well.

If I can make an example of this using a ruler. I was in a class of children. All were expected to use a ruler to draw a straight line. Some can draw a straight line with their rulers. Some, even with a ruler, cannot. Some, no ruler, but they improvised and came up with a straight line (by using an exercise book to guide their pencil). See the ruler as the parent's teaching. Then you may understand what I am trying to say about how even wi good parents, no guarantee kid's will turn out good.

No one way is good for every kid. 因材施教is a more effective way.

This whole issue should never be publicised…NUS should handle it internally…but it is not just a simple case of law professor violating laws…he couldn’t resist the carrot dangling in front of him. The one dangling the carrot lacks the integrity to be a lawyer.
