Yes the Govt. model is based on FTs finding S’pore attractive for the next 25-40 years and why not? If you have travelled and lived in other cities you will realize after talking to many expats who have worked and raised families in SG, that this is where they will want to start their families and keep the family until at least the children become teenagers.

You will see the very bright lights of Shanghai and Mumbai but that is because they want the glare to blind you to all the things that are wrong

For the young and driven FT, the bright lights of Shanghai and Mumbai is what they want now and so be it, enjoy it :boogie:

But when you are a high-flying FT who has a wife and kids and you do not want them exposed to the dangers and difficulties and poverty and crass lives of Shanghai and Mumbai, then SG beckons as a beacon of hope for the young family with its welcoming open arms :grphug:

That is what the Govt is banking on and realistically that is what will happen for the next 40 years. Beyond that who knows :scratchhead: :?

Meaning there's no need for them to be prepared for the \"worst case scenario\" of this nature, just presume that Singapore will always be able to attract the number we need (and the number will always stay with us in good or bad times)?

Well it is the Asian century which technically means it will last till 2099!

India and China have so many issues to grapple with that it will take a long time for them to have cities equivalent to Singapore. Just look at their capital cities Delhi and Beijing, no FT with a young family will want to have their children exposed to the pollution in these 2 cities, and the pollution will only get worse, hence my reference to Mumbai and Shanghai instead. But even then for young FT families :? .

As for the rest of Asia, Korea and Japan are too homogenous for the liking of FTs.

The Philippines and Indonesia are too chaotic and will take at least 25-50 years to have even 1 city each comparable to Singapore. Look at the flooding in Jakarta and that is just the tip of the iceberg, as for Manila welcome to the slums and people power of the slum dwellers which paralyses every Filipino govt.

Vietnam is so far off the radar that nobody wants to go there. So what is left in Asia, Taiwan? HK? (they have always been around but are always under the thumb of China) (Myanmar will be like Vietnam eventually), (Laos, Cambodia, Bangladesh are poor and will remain so), (Brunei and Malaysia will continue to be moderate Muslim states as they have been for a long time now)

So what does that leave us, let me guess :? :scratchhead:

You will be surprised that a lot of FTs live like kings in these countries. But not sure if Singaporeans with our superior complex and peculiar English would like to go to these places or can fit in well when we are there. No choice we are stuck. 🤷

Singapore is going to be like Dubai soon!

With majority FT and the poor Singkies would have to get handout from government.
Already they have implemented SGD750 for child care subsidies now for the low income group. For this amount, they don’t even have to come out a single cent to send their child to child care!

                - This is a replica of Dubai!

FTs can say goodbye when financial times are bad then you get this:

Bottom line is we are still stuck. 🤷

Do not just listen to one side of story from these social workers.

Do listen to both sides of these social workers and the most important group - less well-off group!! You will have a better understanding of the situation!

Logically, I wont buy in the ideas that some less well-off group will not ask or ACCEPT help and talked to may of them

The untold story is NOT the less well-off who strangely DO NOT WANT help!!!
It’s because of HDB put two families from two different background together and squeezed them into 3 rooms rental HDB flat (with one families in one room in the 3R rental HDB flat). Some of them can’t live together and have no choice but to walk away from a low rent rental flat! Everyone that I talked have told me of his/her side of stories and they are all valid reasons.

Not that they are ashamed, stubborn or do not want to be beholden to the Govt. I talked to some of them, some of them already got trained and have certificates to do simple jobs like secretary, technician, lorry drivers, dish washers, working in coffee/any shops, the jobs are not paid enough for them to support the families as they faced competition from foreigners who are always willing to get a lower pay. I knew some have even 2-3 jobs just to bring in sufficient income and hence can’t afford to work very longer hours as they may not have time for 2-3 jobs.

Also, our law creates excessive bureaucracy or adherence to rules and formalities and this drives those poor nuts! These poor would have to go through each social body to examine their conditions that made their assessment to qualify for help!

                        Harlequin:

No, it is never a 100% promise, but at least we try, a good odds at 90%. Now that's a A*

                        Don't try, ZERO!
                        THAT is your belief only.

I believe we can score A* in people happiness index and SG will survive if w/o the country doesn't get overcrowded with indiscriminate influx of foreigners.

                        And that is my belief.

But I don't say until like if reach 7m pop the country will explode that kind of crap.. similar to some of the comment like no 7m pop the country will collapse kind of fear mongering.. 😆
