I’m not sure about discriminations with respect to nationalities. My impression has been that they are trying to avoid cases like the 小龙女, i.e. making use of SC to gain residency. But of course, the seemingly ad hoc ways of granting visas, PRs and citizenships make me wonder what’s actually in the criteria/checklist for granting PRs etc...and did they either adhere to the criteria too strictly, or too loosely? :scratchhead:

maybe Immigration is wary and strict -

because too many 小龙女 around, go after trying to seduce coffee shop Ah Pek into marrying them to give them a status in SG, so that they can get PR / SG citizenship.

But we are talking about foreign spouses with SC kids, remember? If this is a serious problem, we won't be having a babies not enough problem, would we?

pregnant beer auntie? I see already I :siam:

won't be surprised that those beer auntie or sexy \"mei mei\" can get pregnant. At Coffee shop - you can see they're from foreign countries, serving beer, liqor to men. Some men even trying to get \"fresh\" with them.

Those who think there is no problem with our immigration policies and rules should read this:

              http://hri-kumar.blogspot.sg/2012/03/foreign-spouse.html

Note the particularly insidious effect this has on lower income Singaporean families. This is not opposition propaganda. This is from the PAP's own MP hor.

                pirate,

My nephew married a Filipino. She only has an equivalent of O levels. My nephew met her while having a 3 months training in the Philippines.

They now have a daughter coming to two years old.

My nephew is drawing a salary of about $2000 per month. His wife was then on social visa for about two years (need to renew regularly). She cannot work as it is difficult to get a Work Permit. So my nephew has to slog with his salary to maintain his family.
How they get married? ROM in Singapore or overseas?
My relative has a thai girlfriend but work permit seems problematic so they dare not even get married. I think my relative earning similar salary as your nephew

this topic has been on my mind ever since i become sahm. i obtained PR through my work. after that i got married and now have two singaporean children. i quit my job after i was pregnant with my second child. my eldest is in pri sch now and he has been attending infant care and child care all his life. he is happy now he doesnt have to go to B&A. but i always tell him that i have to go back to work when mei mei is old enough to go child care and he has to go to B&A. oneof the reasons is i am worried i cant renew my PR status since i am not working and i have to be separated from my children. the gov has been promoting marriage and family unit. it shouldnt separate a family unit by sending away a non singaporean parent.

Nihauma, is your spouse a Singaporean? I have seen successful cases where SG hubby applied SC for wife PR (from MY) with children successfully. I have also seen SG wife applied SC for PR hubby (from MY) with kid successfully too. Both cases their spouses are from MY so I am not sure if it's the same for other nationalities.

                      At an event last year:

"PM Lee assured the participants that the current racial composition will be maintained for citizens."

What does this portend for racial minorities like Filipinos, Vietnamese, Myanmese, etc.? Do note that we have a minister in charge of Chinese (Gan Kim Yong), Malay (Yaacob Ibrahim), Indian (Tharman) and Eurasian (S Iswaran) affairs but none specifically for other minorities.

While the Chinese, as the majority race, might be comfortable to accommodate more minorities, would our fellow Malay or Indian brethren be similarly confident without feeling threatened?

This was one of the comments that really didn't make sense to me. We see over & over again that the number of Singaporeans marrying foreign spouses is increasing in addition to the new immigrants coming in. How are those minority races going to maintain their current ratios? We see a lot of Chinese and Indians coming in but Malays and Eurasians? Then we also have to take into account the increased number of others....
