      do P3 / P4 parents do experiment(s) at home -

to demo to children the different Science concepts that're difficult to grasp / understand ?
if Yes, can parent(s) share what kind of experiment(s) do you normally conduct at home, say example: to help clear up Misconception(s) ?
Hi phtthp, I sometimes do that to help them understand the concept well. You may want to check their textbook for experiment that you can do with them. But my children's own tutor at the tuition centre also do that in the class to help them understand the concept better. Of course they don play with fire but normal simple experiment that can be done easily. If its too difficult, the tutor will demo to them and show them but they cant do hands on.

so far I have not seen the above books in popular. But will try to enquire. There used to be a big bookshop in clementi which used to sell Ace publications books. But now it is closed 😞

Anybody know where to get these books..
Umm, I found these at Popular Simei. it's at the Science section. They are having 20% off assessment books now - no min spend required to get that discount.

FYI, P5 set has the 2 books and P6 had 2 books. At first I thought it's one title per pack (wrong). Each pack about $6.95 before discount. And 2nd FYI, the books are binded but it's more like plain paper....no fancy hardcover etc - a bit hard to explain, but I saw it there.

Best chk with popular before popping down.

I was in the united sq branch. I saw those booklets too. They are not on the main shelves but in the sq box shelves by the main long shelves. I don’t think the titles are complete. A couple titles I saw "sample" copies, maybe need to bring to staff for them to bring out the sales copy? I’m not sure, didn’t chk, was in a hurry.

There is another bookshop (Clementi bookstore?) in the same place now. And looks like they have the same collection as big bookshop. You can go and have a look.

Hi HappyH thank you so much.

Will try to take a look today evening. I didn’t know about this bookshop. Will update everyone about the books available there!

I did manage to get the P5 and P6 science misconception book, P4 science explorer and p3/4 challenging science at popular JP.

The P3 science explorer was not available (out of stock) and staff had no clue (did not bother to even check!!!) when they will stock up…

Am not too sure about the lower primary but for upper primary:-
                \tACE Publications
                Pr 5 Science Misconceptions (Systems)\t\t
                \tPr 5 Science Misconceptions (Cycles)\t\t
                \tPr 6 Science Misconceptions (Interactions)\t\t
                \tPr 6 Science Misconceptions (Energy)
yesterday was at Popular Simei branch, closing down sale.
                This Sunday is last day.
Yes, saw all of them there, only a few copies left.

They are found at the \"Primary Science \" section (walk straight all the way in from the entrance, till the end). I saw / found :-
                2nd shelf from the bottom.

                - Pr 5 Science Misconceptions (Systems) and (Cycles) - both together cost $ 6.75

                - Pr 6 Science Misconceptions (Interaction) and (Energy) - both together cost $ 6.75

                but there wasn't any P3 / P4 Science Misconception. Think ACE didn't produce P3 / P4.

Is that one of the reason why most of the kids are not able to score well in Science?

:skeptical: meaning no tuition, so most kids not able to score well in science? :scared:

Don't worry, Jedamum.. Not true that one must have tuition to score well in Science..

My DS1 did not have tuition in Science and he got A* in Science for PSLE.. I never coach him too.. All credit should go to his school teachers who had coached and guided him well in all aspects.. :salute:

I remember DS' teachers telling us that the child must read widely to do well in Science.. So, expose your child to lots of reading, like books (NOT only textbooks), magazines, journals, even booklets & brochures picked up at Science Centre.. That would widen the scope & depth of your child's knowledge (& most importantly, his interest) in Science.. 😄

                    Thanks firefly.

But my son no time to do reading at p5.:( could be an interest issue.
So Starting my p1 😓 early! He loves non fiction reading and has plenty of time to read.

I read through the 2 P5 misconceptions books, got lost in the midst already. I’m agog at what kids have to know these days. It’s very impressive…impressively scary that is.

I got the P3 Science Explorer, there are some explanatory notes and also some misconceptions. Got Ds1 to try it out. Quite challenging. I had fun working out some of the mcq with him. Dun dare to look at the Challenging series yet…it’ll probably be that - challenging.

Thanks for recommending this series. P3 yes, still quite alright. I will be really scared come P5/6.

Science explorer, P3, P4 by same publisher and author and place in the same area, do list some misconceptions along with qns.
