I will also be going there to spend the new year there with my friends.

If you love Peranakan food, u have got to go to Ola Sayang!

I have tried a few Peranakan places there and I think that this is the best!

You can check out the photos on my blog

              Hi penglee,

After looking at the blog you had posted, I'm thinking to go to Malacca with my family for a short break during one of the weekends in end Nov. The hotel's (Holiday Inn) room looks great and I'm planning to book a room there. Can I check whether the two single beds are big enough to sleep four person? (my kids are 8 and 12) We planned to book only one room.

                hi S-H,

my room was only Rm150++ last time, and HolidayInn has increased their rates. (do they still have early-bird promotion?)
You might want to check with other nearby hotel near Mahkota Parade about rate, and their flexibility to squeeze in 4 people πŸ™‚

..worst come to worst, try smuggling the boys in, only after you have checked-in πŸ™‚

                Whichever hotel it is :
                - I think u should try asking for at least one Queen and 1 single, or 1 king
                - you can do without the hotel breakfast, as Makohta has a lot of eateries + shopping.

                cheers.

                    Hi Penglee,

I just found out from the newspaper that there is a guided tour with four meals to malacca (2D1N) organised by Grassland. Adult pay $168 and children (6-11) pay $123. Stay in city Bayview Hotel. Do you think this is worth joining? My hubby and mum(joining us too with sister’s family) suggested that we should join the guided tour bcos 1st time there.

                      For hotel review --> http://www.tripadvisor.com/
As for guided tour, individual preference.
We normally walk/drive on our own, after reading other to-do stuffs πŸ™‚

                      Malacca is relatively safe.
Popular joints (worth two visits ) would be JonkerStreet, and Mahkota πŸ™‚

the hotel rates in melaka has increased quite a bit over the last year.. one hotel I like is the Courtyard@ heeren. If u take their family room, its only 380RM Nett.. it's 1 king size plus 1 super single. The room itself doesn't have alot of space to run around, but they have nice courtyards to hang out at.. Very nice mgt.. and breakfast is free and good. Very well run and next to jonker walk.. Have stayed there twice already, must book early... very popular..

For the first time, taking a tour may be convenient so you don have to worry about the street directions etc.. but they may not bring you to the famous eating places like capitol satay etc.. so it's your choice ya? Melaka is not hard to navigate, but do get a map or gps for your first time. πŸ™‚
