Your LG have wifi or BT?

ANyway, I’m just wondering if it’s worthwhile to buy the adapter and HDMI cable just for experimenting.

Then again, if the phone is running video non-stop, I doubt the old battery can sustain long…maybe 1 hr at most.

I've hooked my LG to my router via the normal Ethernet cable (I thought since I'll be browsing or linking to an online content server I should give more bandwidth). Just to debunk any false expectations, it's still better to browse the web via the traditional equipment (i.e. not the TV). This even as I'm already using a wireless keyboard+mouse with a less-than-a-year-old TV.

I don't usually watch video off a phone but I can imagine that you can hook up your phone to the regular charger and transmit from there. Am not a video watcher so I seldom do that. Was just playing around for the fun of it. But I do use the phone to display photos on screen and it's great.

P.S I have the adapters for the iPad and went wireless for Android. Needless to say which I prefer.

The cable can be quite useful if you want to run presentations off your android smartphone/tablet instead of a laptop. Connect your cable to the projector and off you go. You may need to get an additional HDMI-VGA converter in case the projector has no HDMI ports.

And you know what I prefer 🙂

Actually, there's an easier way if you are into sharing videos on your Android smart device with your smart TVs at home. I have a Sony Bravia which is DLNA-enabled and could recognise my Buffalo NAS on my home LAN. So I can use the TV to play movies and MP3s directly off the NAS. If I have a movie on my smartphone I want to watch on TV, I just copy it to my NAS using a file explorer via SMB (eg. ES Explorer) and then I use the TV to play it off the NAS.

See ma, ... no hands! 🙂

Apparently if you have a samsung smart phone and a samsung smart TV, samsung has an app that allows you to connect the 2 devices wirelessly quite seamlessly.

The same goes for LG (and I suspect other brands too).

The problem with me (perhaps with others too) is that I have LG smart TVs at home, then later I bought samsung smart phone, and when I researched how to connect them - even calling up samsung and LG resp. - I was told that cannot cross-connect

so no choice went to buy the cable...

Err no, I have Samsung phone (old Note) and LG Smart TV. PM me separately and see if we can reproduce what I did on your setup. The connectivity protocol is via WiFi so it's not proprietary to any brand of either phone or display (except perhaps they have to adopt the DLNA standard which is very old).

I got my TV about 1.5 yr ago, and at that time didn't know what to look out for - just got the cheapest range. Got no in-built WiFi, although got a WiFi dongle to connect to my wireless modem. But I think got some DLNA standard that i had installed to my laptop such that even if not connected via cable, i can play movies and photos from my laptop, to show on the TV. will PM you.

I bought my MHL cable from a very nice KS forum mummy, that comes with very clear instructions on how to fix and use and it works! Very excited.

Resolution will be a little compromised but good enough for me.

& errrr … what to do with the wrongly bought micro HDMI/HDMI ah?

Congrats! Don't throw away the micro HDMI to HDMI cable. Many new laptops come with the micro HDMI cable in place of the VGA. Some tablets also have that micro HDMI port. Your cable will come in useful if you want to connect your laptop to the TV or projector.

Or camera too... I got a camera in Sep 11 with micro HDMI. asked wife to buy a micro HDMI to HDMI cable in Oct when she went to China, then in Nov, bought 2 china tablets, and both came with a cable each... wasted...
