Give your child a strong start in their MATHS learning journey in this BRAVE NEW WORLD…. Mainly focus in Maths word problem solving… Dear Parents, Are you very troubled by your child’s Maths grade? Are you wondering how come Singapore Primary level Mathematics is so difficult for students? Is your child struggling to keep up with the Maths lessons in class? Fret not, you are not alone. Singapore Primary Level Maths is known to be advanced in the whole world! And the difficulty level keeps increasing every couple of years, as there is gradual emphasis of STEM subjects in this Artificial Intelligence era… In this situation, many parents seek Maths tuition for their children, to get an edge over the school syllabus. A good Maths tutor can shorten the learning curve of your child, and let your child be the Maths Ace student of the class! Introducing Ms Heng- the star Maths tutor for your child Ms Heng has a simple philosophy when it comes to learning Maths:- it must be efficient, engaging, and fun, then the student will gain confidence and excel in it. Her approach:- 1) Identify areas of weakness for each topic, for each student. For many topics, Ms. Heng frequently noticed that most students only have a few points of weaknesses, or lack of understanding per topic. Through her extensive experience, she is able to identify and zero-in on these areas of challenge. Once these points are cleared up, the student(s) become confident and love to tackle problems on these Math topics. 2) Enhance thorough understanding of Maths concepts A good teacher has to understand how young students think and what their perspectives on things are. By using everyday examples that students can relate with, they can internalise new Maths concepts better. This makes Maths more relatable to the real-world situations… 3) Customised teaching for different students Ms. Heng often calibrates her teaching methods and speed according to how advanced the student is in terms of the student(s) current understanding of the Maths concepts… 4) Wealth of teaching resources Practice makes perfect!! Ms. Heng’s Maths lessons expose her students to a wide range of Math questions. Her Maths lesson notes and sample questions have been refined throughout the years. Ms. Heng often makes it a priority to increase the size of her library of test questions frequently, and her test question bank aligns with the MOE curriculum, regardless of pre-Covid or post-Covid. Apart from the MOE Singapore Maths syllabus, Ms. Heng continually aims at improving her current Maths knowledge through the understanding of the Integrated Program/ International Baccalaureate Maths/ Calculus syllabus. Even during the COVID season, she was able to move along with the modern times to provide ZOOM online lessons for her students, so the students’ learning would not be negatively impacted. She noted from some of the her ex-students and ex-graduating students that there was lack of tutors who were able to provide ZOOM online lessons for them, hence their grades were negatively impacted before they gotten to know Ms. Heng. She noted from the online Youtube videos that even the US Stanford university used ZOOM for certain courses for students. Ms. Heng always believe in moving with the current times and be in-tuned with the latest current affairs and business environment and that kept the students interested in her Maths coaching too… Why get your child’s Maths coaching from Ms Heng? @thebottomsupblog the board surfing reel was pretty heartwarming! About the below the block community shelves, there’ll always be those bad apples who take things just for the sake of getting something for free and without contributing anything in return. It’s so discouraging for those who start these community initiatives that it almost always fails in the end. Sigh. I read about some used bookstore initiative under a void deck a while back. I wonder if it’s still thriving. Back then, some folks even carted the physical bookshelves away!

@rinsider We are waiting to see if she gets offered a full scholarship for Monash… if not, NUS is her safety option for now, unless her desired engineering course becomes unexpectedly competitive! If money were no object, then she could’ve applied to more schools on her shortlist, such as Stanford. MIT was a stretch option which she tried for, since they also offer full scholarships. But with these schools, the admit rate for international students is as low as 1-2 out of every 100 who apply. For now, I’ve told her to relook her list again, since she’s still on her gap year, and see if there are a few more unis she would like to apply for. Perhaps she might have some fresh thoughts after a year spent thinking about these things… If she doesn’t get overseas experience for the undergrad years, there’s always a shorter postgrad stint!

Hi parents, My son recently prepared for enlistment into BMT, and one thing we noticed was that the official SAF packing list is quite basic. It tells you the required items, but many recruits only realise they need certain things after they enter camp and start training. After speaking with a few NSFs and parents, these were some commonly mentioned items that recruits often find useful during BMT: • Multi-clip hangers – wet clothes pile up quickly in bunk • Blister plasters – helpful for route marches and new boots • Waterproof shower bag – makes bringing toiletries to the shower easier • Cooling wipes – useful when there isn’t time to shower • Insect repellent – helpful for daily use in camp • Muscle relief cream – many recruits use this after PT sessions To make preparation simpler, we also compiled a BMT PrepKit Guide that explains what SAF already provides, what recruits still need to bring, and common misconceptions before enlistment. Based on this, we put together a small BMT Prep Kit containing these commonly useful items, together with the preparation guide. If it’s helpful for parents whose sons are preparing for enlistment, you can take a look here: Shopee Listing The kit is meant to help recruits start BMT with a bit more preparation and confidence. Hope this is helpful for parents who are currently preparing for enlistment!

I have one neighbour gf (previously we lived on the same floor), who is one of my most-trusted friends now! We text each other pretty often and meet up once in two months or so. The friendship happened because of timing — we lived on a floor with 3 other young families, kids were all under 10, and we left our doors open every day. I think the first icebreaker was me helping my gf to contact other moms with spare breastmilk via the SG Motherhood forum! Then we just got close after that. At the time, we always popped in and out of one another’s homes to have coffee and let the kids play with one another. I was wfh but freelance at the time, so I had more energy to devote for all of this, including the clean up afterwards! All the families moved out after 5 years and our new neighbourhood has more of the bingo/retirement vibe haha. We’re comfortable with most neighbours and trust the family next door, but nothing like lift landing xmas parties, having a communal foosball table, or any of the other stuff from our previous neighbourhood
