Not sure. The 3/5 years MOP looks like general clause and need not be valid for people who subsequently oen private props.

The above was quoted from hdb...so better check with hdb coz there are clauses that state that hdb is not for revenue generstion.

When I login, mine says can lease out whole flat.. got letter that states can buy private also..

U mean when u login to apply for approval...u are NOT required to give any valid reason to HDB for the sublet of yr whole flat ?

I know one of my friends who did it in the past...she gave the reason of taking care of her aged mom...which is so true for her case...

That is against HDB rules isn't it?

If you don't intend to stay in the HDB, should just sell it.

        From HDB website :-
        \"Subletting of Whole Flat

As an owner# of a non-subsidised/ subsidised flat, you can sublet your entire flat after living in it for at least 3 or 5 years, respectively and have satisfied the NC subletting quota if you are subletting your flat to non-Malaysian NCs. You must obtain HDB's written approval before subletting your flat.
Subsidised Flats : Flats bought directly from HDB or from the open market with a CPF housing grant
Non-Subsidised Flats : Flats bought from the open market without a CPF housing grant.\"

So it can be done. And if the owner has the power to hold both HDB and private condo, why not?

Once HDB increase the income ceiling, with more supply of HDB flats, do you think the current bigger flat owners will dispose their HDB flats and invest in private condo instead?

        So they changed the policy?

Previously there has to be special reasons before subletting whole flat is allowed. For e.g. staying with and looking after aged parents, overseas employment etc..
        [/quote]That's what i understand too ...

But HDB owners were required to pay 7%ABSD when they buy a condo, so rightly, they are already "penalized"

So should be able to keep both HDB and condo and once 5-years occupation period is over, should be allowed to rent out their HDB.

anyway, besides this, I'm most impressed by the long, narrow and dark corridor of Pasir Ris One. Some gates cannot be open concurrently!

Is the most narrow walkway pic the actual DBSS project? Oh dear..that is so depressing. It reminds me of those low cost flat in Jurong many many years ago.

That's another DBSS project in Pasir Ris. Not the Tampinese one.

Residents are upset because they paid a premium for the DBSS and it's not better than a one-room flat (at least, looking from the corridor).

The 7% ABSD is required when a SC purchases a second ppty...not becos he or she is a HDB owner...

Yep, what I mean, since they pay ABSD for their 2nd property, so rightfully should be allowed to keep HDB and rent out.

Think there had been some changes in HDB regulations. There used to be a time when private home owners are allowed to buy a HDB from the secondary market and own both properties. Believe this is no longer so.

Could this be one of the measures introduced to curb the HDB prices then? Remember few years back the HDB price was really quite high..it's something like double of the previous low.
All along, private property owners are not allowed to buy HDB. This is not something new.

Again, as mentioned earlier, what is the purpose of HDB flats? to provide affordable housing to the masses.

Note that there are still many young couples wanting to start a family but could barely afford a flat at current prices.

If you are the policy maker, do you feel it is right for rich pple to hog the HDB supply? If rich, go speculate in the private property market, nobody will stop you.

IMO, allowing HDB owners to sublet the whole flat(w/o compelling reasons) is just wrong. Sure they can buy private and get passive income from their private but they shd stay in the HDB for the purpose what HDB is designed to be, affordable ownership of a roof over their family. It's not meant to be an investment tool, just that too many pple abuse it.

This should be an election topic.
