Order from Dangdang

SAHM_TAN:
hi SAHM_TAN,
Does that means for books, there must be a title with 20 copies. Or in the case for books, does not matter since will be more than 20 copies. But in Singapore custom, once the value of the item is more than $400, it will be subjected to 7% GST. For RMB 4000, it will definitely incurr the GST. Not sure if all the hassle is worth it
It means that just one book order must have a minimum order of 20copies.
The shipping cost remains at 50%. However, the book prices will be reduced accordingly. They are unable to advise how much cheaper it will be,though. I'm curious how SMH forum sprees can charge shipping cost at 20% & avoid paying the 7% GST. -
Jollyme,
The smh sprees do not use dangdang shipping. They use a shipping company that receives the books from dangdang and ships to singapore. l have no idea which shipping company they are using. l am sure the organizers are earning good profits. -

China actually has a very sophisticated system for online shopping, but it is targeted only for their domestic market.
there are so many Internet companies that support credit card payment and has minimal delay with no hassles. Wonder why Dangdang has all these payment verification issues. Amazon.com does a very fine job.cimman:

Depends on how often you've shopped with them. Recently, my payments were received the next day - but that could be due to surge of orders I was placing.
If you can go online to your credit card and am able to get confirmation that the amount was deducted from your balance, copy and paste and send to customer service. My problem is that DBS Amex is a bit sluggish in that department - it could take 1 week or more before I see the transaction posted.
My lastest order - at point of payment, I actually took a screenshot of the payment screen (that 3rd party screen), and sent that to dangdang. It cleared the payment hurdle very very fast.
I worked in China last year and opened a China bank account there, bought tons of stuff with no hassles at all. They also prefer to use their own credit card, UnionPay, and they have their own paypal system, 支付宝.
These online shopping websites in China do not care about doing business overseas, since their domestic market is already so huge.[/quote]I'm sure China has a very good system in place for online shopping for local people. However, when it comes to foreign currency, that's where it comes up short.
I believe this has nothing to do with the merchants being satisfied with the domestic market business, and not doing enough to cater to the international market, but rather the China government's policy on foreign currency regulation.
All foreign currency going in and out of China is closely monitored. There are controls in place to monitor this and merchants dealing with foreign currencies have to setup foreign currency accounts for a certain minimum amount in the banks and apply for approval. All of these adds additional costs and red tape for the merchants.
For this reason, international credit cards are seldom accepted in China. Only in high end establishments or areas where it is frequented by foreigners would international credit cards be accepted.
Even in Shanghai, the mecca for foreigners, one would not be able to pay for a meal in a mid class restaurant with an international credit card. First time foreigners to China are in for a rude shock, when they bring minimal Yuan and expect to pay mostly through their credit card. They quickly find that they need access to cash after the first few days.
So the issue is not a technical issue or a business issue, but a government policy issue. -
Thanks tamarind for sharing about ordering books from dang dang.
