Are you sure the problem is correct? After Mary gives 2 book marks to June, she can't have the same number as before?

But if you read again, I think what they are saying is that in the beginning, Mary had 3x more, so it essentially means that Mary had 4 x as much as Jane and after Mary gives 2 book marks, she had 3x as many as Jane. The phrasing of the question could have been better.

My answer: Jane had 8 in the beginning and Mary has 32. Use the comparison Before and After. Don't know how to post the model here....
