U can get the latest Nikon DSLR D3100. I just bought one for dd, c/w a kit lens, at $800+. It is light n has 1080p video function.

Non DSLR with good manual function, can go for Nikon p7000 or Canon G12. Abt $600+ and $700+.

I get all my cameras from Cathay photo. If you want 2nd hand, try clubsnap market place.
The Nikon 3100 is good for beginner DSLR users. Very affordable and when in doubt, just use auto or programme mode.

Canon s90 (s95) or Lumix 5 is very hot now, and suitable for entry users (good night shot, and light weight)

(..Those 3/4 Sony nex are even more expensive than entry DSLRS ! ..)

For more advice : research at http://forums.clubsnap.org/
..but please make sure you know what u want before asking :
        - your budget
        - your target? eg landscape(30%), portraits (20%), children (30%), candids (x %)
        - weight, battery life, capability

As someone has mention, dpreview.com is another good reserach/comparison source.

        Happy shopping.

I just switch to DSLR (Nikon D5000) about 3 months back, and is enjoying every moment 😛

(oh, and Sitex coming end Nov)

My hubby got me the canon s95 recently as an upgrade from my 5 year old powershot. It’s great. There are auto and manual functions. Video recording is not bad either. I’m enjoying it very much.

My only gripe is that it doesn’t use regular battreries and the battery life doesn’t seem that great. It uses a canon rechargeable. I guess it saves money coz i don’t have to keep buying expensive AA batteries, but the battery has died on me a few times coz it did not diligently recharge it before going on my photo taking sprees.

I hope I am posting the write question on the right index 🙏

I have been searching for this answer on line but no definite answer. You see, my DS is turning 16months and running in the house and I just cant be able to capture his image in a stable states. Most of his photographs turns out to be blurry. Online recommend DSRL and the aim and shoot type. I just need someone to recommend what cameras they are using, are they good? What is the model? Price? I just need a reference, something below $1000. Anyone care to share?

Like all moms, I am looking for answers to nurture a kid but also trying to find ways to \"preserve\" moments of my angels (before they turn to \"devils\"...haha..)..I thought this will be a good forum to get my answer.

What type of camera are you looking for? DSLR or Point-and-shoot? If you're not familiar with DSLRs then get a point-and-shoot and set it to sports mode. For under $1000 there are a lot of options available for Point-and-shoot. Not much for DSLRs, except for entry level models.
