DSA 2012

The pain GoodDad and his kid and all who were and are now in same issue I can understand. I am too going thru this now. My DS is < 80% (79.++) . I already told him that DSA is just one option to go in to his school of interest but I have always and will insist that it is good to be in a small pond as a big fish then being a tiny fish in big pond and being demoralized
GoodDad, I know how you feel. It's really not easy to manage the outcome. Very much depend on the child. Last year, when I was reading the forum, I know it's not easy for gepper to get thru DSA if the result < 80%. I was worried. Knowing that my DS is a child of pride, I knew he will not be able to take it if things didn't turn well. I started talking to him, managing his expectation. At one point, I even asked myself whether he has made the right choice to go into GEP. If he's not in GEP, we probably will not even considered DSA cos it might not be a norm at mainstream.
This year, finally he's going thru the process. I'm keeping my fingers crossed :xedfingers: , hoping that everything will go on smoothly. As parents, we feel stressed when we see that our child suffer (if the child doesn't know how to handle the situation). We know how much they wanted to get thru this. We can only help them by standing by them, encouraging them and hiding from them our worries. They'll have to face the outcome & learn to cope.
. To me I need a school with good & healthy environment , CCA/Pgm he likes. Again :nailbite: :xedfingers: :please: waiting for DSA results.
but still I prefer RI if they are strict about > 80% better inform the kids upfront of their policy and allow kids to try in other domain they are strong like mainstreamer or keep GAT then filter from that kids and then after that there should be no % involved when selecting (now it is GAT+interview for < 80% and interview for >80%) -
Parents can you advise is there any GEP student <80% went to GAT but not selected for interview. I strongly believe all <80% should go for GAT+interview and there is no filtering from GAT for interview. But earlier info from KP parents that there is filtering.

You mean RI/RGS? How about HCI/NY? Any GEPpers not shortlisted for DSA?
In GoodDad's case it seems that GEPper with SMOPS and school team player does not help in the HCI DSA (am assuming his ds applied for HCI?) or could his interview/test the main cause ? -

Hi Leeven
I understand that all GEP boys have to go for interview, no filtering from GAT. The only different is that <80% take GAT. 80% and above no need to take GAT. -

hi, think it depends on when your dd took the GAT..Herbie:

Yes, My DS applied for HCI. Silver award in SMPOS was nothing, hundreds of them out there. School team player did not help either. I guess not becuase of the interview/test, DS interview session lasted for almost 40mins and the interview was done both in English and Chinese. It was the SA1 result was the most important factor.leeven:

My DS classmate, has nothing outstanding in his profile. SA1-83%. COs from RI, HCI, ACSI and NUSH. -

Put HCI as his first choice and later posted to ispark. Was told reason: did very well in his GAT, entry test(Eng, Chin & Math) and interview during DSA. -

Yes there are cases for GEP girls where they took GAT and didn't make the cut, so no interviews and hence rejected.
