Hi, Chief, May I suggest to sort this thread by year,"DSA 2010" ;"DSA2011"; "DSA2012" so on. though the information are intertwined , it gets too long to read…

      Thanks.

        Good idea !

        go by year better.
Easier to extract info, instead of 1 big chunk.

My apologies if my questions are already covered previously but it’s kind of impossible to pore through thousand over pages. Could you help me with these questions?

          1) for non-GEP, what results for p4/p5/p6 are good enough to try for DSA to ri?

          2) is it true that if a child did not manage to get into selection shortlist or wait list, then he need not even try to put ri in s1 form?

          Tia!

Not sure for your first question, but for your second question, even if you did not get into the DSA shortlist etc, as long as your PSLE score is good enough then you should put RI if you want to get in.

What kind of portfolio RI is looking at? If a student doesn't have any achievements so far, how can he show the portfolio? will he be invited to sit GAT?

There are 3 types of DSA. Via:

              1) GEP Domain (the child is in Gifted Education Program)
              2) Academic for Mainstream
              3) Sports

For GEP boys, they would have a porfolio they have done from P4 to P6. So, they can choose any to present/talk during the interview. The child only need to bring his porfolio if he is shortlisted for interview.

For Mainstream boys, I think during the DSA application which is online, you dont need to submit any porfolio. You will have to enter your P4 to P6 results including other non-academic achievements. The boy will then have to sit for GAT (General Ability test). If he pass GAT, he will be asked to prepare a project to present...the topic of the project will be given if the boy pass GAT.

For Sports, the boy will have to go for a trial.

You may want to refer to RI website for more information.

For 1) it depends on the sch u are applying for. For the IP sch my DD applied for, am not sure, but I thought that all were invited for the HAST test. Then only shortlisted students were invited for the interview. I felt this was very fair as different Schs have different level of difficulty hence, inviting all to sit for the same test is the way to go. I'm referring to DSA via academics.

For 2) selection is based on PSLE score. Many rejected students have made it to their dream sch via their actual results.

                  Skyed, Peony, thanks!

Is it advisable to prepare for GAT test? What does it test? I saw on random page in this thread that it tests shapes and patterns. Does this still hold true now?

There is no need to prepare GAT test. However, part of GAT test for NYGH and RGS was in fact the same. :?

Is there any minimum academic results for DSA via sports?

I believe different schools have different requirements. If I'm not wrong I think for Singapore Sports School need to get a PSLE score of at least Express stream + DSA via sports.
