Happy Mama:
I just recall that we managed to grow marigolds from seeds too. Put them in pots to grow. That was last year. No photos to share as I did not take any  but they were really pretty.Cold Storage King Albert Park ran out of sunflower seeds! I bought a few types of flower seeds including French Marigold, Sea Lavender, Gazania and Indian Blanket... but NOT SUNFLOWERS!!!
I think they were in white and pale purple if I remember correctly.

:thankyou: so much schweppes
Start with the hardy herb plants first. They are easier to take care and will give u confidence. Anyway, nothing to lose even if u want to try planting flowering plants. Give it a try, otherwise u wont know right?twinklejoy:
adoi...schweppes jie..after reading this thread..I'm also motivated to try again on planting pandan leaves, chilli, lime...etc
但是,我每种一盆,死一盆...
对那些无辜的盆栽很过意不去...
Any advise to improve my gardening skills?
I'm also here to cheer u on... :rahrah:
Go... go... go... :rahrah:
Try.... try.... try... :rahrah:
I will try..pandan plant bah.. -
The kids and I planted ladies fingers before as well. And out of the four that we planted, 2 actually bore fruit. We got a total of four ladies fingers. Haha. The tomato seeds that we planted did not even germinate.
Was told to try passion fruit. It’s a creeping plant and according to my friend easy to grow. Anyway, my garden is in shambles now due to the repainting and maintenance work done end of last year. As it is my ginger bamboo was already going botak and the workers still lowered the whole gondola on top the bamboos and broke all of them along with 2 pots of my orchids.
Actually, I get the stuff and tell my helper to plant and once in a while I will mix the fertilizers and check on the plants but I seldom plant them or handle them myself cos I get rashes all over whenever I handle any soil.
Do we need a place with direct sunlight to plant sunflowers? My place is a bit weird. 1st 1/2 of the year, not much sun reaching my garden. 2nd half of the year, we get pretty good sun. If I plant the flowers in my planter, I can’t move them around. Maybe should plant them in portable planters. -
Just finished planting all my 4 flower seeds this evening together with DD i.e. French Marigold, Sea Lavender, Indian Blanket and Gazania. So significant on Valentine's Day. Now eagerly waiting for its full bloom.
Still haven't got time to drive to the nursery, so no sunflowers yet. -

Hi Funz, I surfed the internet yesterday to find out more about sunflowers and yes, sunflowers thrive in direct sunlight. The rest of the flower seeds I bought also thrive in strong sunlight, so I have decided to grow them in pots and place them under direct sunlight. It is mobile and we can shift them to wherever the sunlight is stronger.
Pots are good too because when it rains too heavily, we can shift them indoors, as my helper says the rain may wash away the seeds (during the initial stage) if we don't do so. -
Funz:
Not weird at all. I think that's because the earth rotates on its axis and revolve around the sun. So, with all that turning, half of the year you wd get more sunlight and the other half less.

My niece was so excited when helping me to plant many Roselle seeds about 3 weeks ago and now we are getting more than 20 plants of about 10\"
height, and can see the little red flower bulb already.
Should be able to see & get the roselle fruits within the next 3- 4 weeks.

Will take photos this Sunday and post it here soon. -
What do you guys use to get rid of garden pests like mealy bugs and white flies, aphids, etc.
I also get a lot of black dots on the underside of the leaves of my chilli plant. No idea what they are.
I know that my granma used to ‘bath’ the leaves of her plants. She will get a bowl of water and wipe each leaf individually. Don’t have her kind of patience.
