Hi MathIzzzFun,MathIzzzFun:
A group of girls was seated in a circle. A box of 115 sweets was passed around in a clockwise direction, starting from Mary. Each girl took a sweet each time the box was passed to her. If Mary took the last sweet in the box, she would have taken a total of 7 sweets. How many girls were there in the group?
115-1 = 114 --> 114 sweets passed 6 full rounds ie every girl took 6 sweets.
Number of girls in the group = 114/6 = 19
cheers.
Can u pl clear my doubt in this sum.... :?
I worked out as
7 girls....7 sweet
11 girls....6 sweets..
And got 18...
Pl enlighten me.....
If Mary took the last sweet, she would have 7 sweets -> the rest had 6 sweets so, we remove the extr sweet from Mary, then she will have same number of sweets as the rest - 6 sweets.
This means total of 115-1= 114 sweets distributed to all the girls.
Number of girls = 114÷6 = 19
cheers. -

During a sale, Wilson spent $120 on a pair of shoes. He spent 2/5 of the remaining money on a bag and a book. After his spending, Wilson realized that he had 1/3 of his money left. If the book cost 1/2 as much as the bag, how much is the bag.
