Comparing Math Enrichment Programmes

Hello Moon3 and other mummies,
You could try out our school's soma math program. We are previously from Elan soma school at united square. We have decided to branch out on our own and renamed it as Mat + Lit school.
Our school offers math and literature program for kids between 3 to 12 years old. There are two different tracks for math program. We have MOE syllabus and Soma.
If your child has a strong and solid foundation in math, he/she could choose to take up Soma math.It is a course designed to promote critical analysis and thinking. The questions are based on math story sums related to daily life.It covers 6 major components of math( Numbers,Pattern,Logical reasoning..etc) to train their logical thinking too. There are various activities to invoke their thinking such as presentation, project work, quiz and games. It trains them to express their thinking clearer through these activities

Means no offense, but not everyone is qualified for training in school. And according to my friend, the school training is usually insuffient also. But anyway, my point is not argueing, I am just trying to help my friend looking for a group mate, as they urgently like to resume lesson!
You are correct that the school training alone is not sufficient, especially for those new to the topics. But it is a good start for the PMO.
I was the PMO trainer for Tao Nan Sch before. Usually they have few classes running for the same level. The standard program is 10 sessions. I had personally trained 1 student from Catholic High Junior, and after 10 sessions, he entered the 2nd round. I also have a few students in other schools, including Kong Hwa, Temasek, Poi Ching, RGS, who got Silver or Bronze in NMOS and HCI SPMOS, trained under RECMEL. My opinion is first get trained under RECMEL, unless there is no training in school then look for alternative.iwork:
Hi, urgent! my friend's kid is looking for a group mate for his P6 Math Olypiad training, mainly for HCI competition in April.
Location: East, near Eunos (Ubi Ave 1), Time: Tue eve 7:15-9:00, Fees:$55 per lesson.
My friend's kid is from Tao Nan, his boy and two more Tao Nan boys formed a small group and studied Math Olympiad from this teacher Jerry, who apparently have strong MO background. All three boys have not learnt Math Olypiad before. After 17 lessons, two boys won NMOS Bronze medal. This year, one of the boy quited. So they urgently need at least one group mate to continue lesson. They are aiming for P6 Hwa Chong APMOPS competition. Tutor's profile can be found on this website: http://www.maximath.sg
Interested parents, pls call 93286350, I am Madam Zhou.
Well, it does not applied to your friend.
You are also correct that not everyone is qualified for the training in school (for some schools, the participants are 'selected' by the teachers).
And that is why classes run by other centres are so popular. In fact, some parents actually asking whether can send their kids to RECMEL for training. However, they only want to do it in schools. -
Morning Parents…
Keen to send my kid in P1 for Maths…hence would like to know if you have any feedback on Mindstrecher at Tampines1…?
Appreciate your reply… -
I would like to recommend my son's Maths tutor.
My son, Dave is in Primary 5 this year and is being tutored by Ms Angela Tay. She teaches at a condo in Pasir Ris with a group of NIE trained teachers. Ms Angela specializes in Primary Mathematics. Dave started the tuition sessions in early September 2014 when he was in Primary 4. Prior to the tutoring, Dave had been failing his Maths exams terribly. Even his school Maths teacher told me that he is hopeless so no point giving him remedials in school. Made me so depressed! Luckily, it is not the same teacher teaching my son Maths this year. Then a parent asked me to look for this tutor, Ms Angela who is good at helping weaker students. Without hesitation, I contacted her and told her about my son. She is a very kind tutor as she even offered to give Dave free P3 Maths lessons to help him build up his foundation as exams was only about one month away. Before the tuition, Dave scored 30 marks for his p4 Math CA2. Miraculously, after only one and a half months of tuition with Ms Angela, he managed to pass his p4 SA2 Math with a score of 51.5. Both my son and I are overjoyed. This really helps to boost my son's self esteem.
I am very thankful and appreciative of what Ms Angela has done for my son. Hence, I would like to give good feedback about her in this forum.
I would strongly recommend this tutor to all mummies who are facing a similar situation. This tutor is kind and patient and will answer any questions you have regarding your child's progress. I'm seeing great improvements in my son, and he still continues his tuition sessions with Ms Angela this year. You can email Ms Angela. Her email address is

Little Bug:
I heard that Learning Point has a very good P1 preparation course for Math K2. They are pretty advanced to do all the Problem sum, division and multiplication. I would like my kid to join? Anyone has sign up too?
Hi Little Bug,
I was looking at Learning Point K2 Maths too but it seems like there's no suitable time slot for us. Did you sign up eventually?
Hi Faithgurl,
I signed up already! They have opened more time slots which fits my time on Sat. Make a call to check with them, the class is starting very soon in Feb.
I've viewed their worksheet samples. The staff explained to me that this program would give my child exposure and prepare him for P1 Maths. That's the reason I join them! -

Please let me know if Learning Point maths for upper pri is good because my kid is in upper primary and needs help. Cost is also a consideration. Are they expensive?
