Anglo-Chinese School (Junior)
-
Since you are in phase 2b which means you are Christians. I guess to christians family, Christians teachings is important to be incorporated into the school motto and values. In that regards, you do not need to worry about discipline. The only thing is Chinese which I guess you can get supplementary classes from else where, if it is not up to your standard.
If I were you whom does not mind the two boys not having the same school, then I will choose acs. Also the school is nearer to your home! -

Just wondering why you did not put your ds1 in ACS?
I would choose ACS with the same reasons u mentioned above. However, don't think that because it's P2b within 1 km it's safe. You never know. Suggest u register first in Pei Hwa in P1 then only weigh your exact chance & decide again during the registration period in P2B. Secure your option first!Littlekohs:
Dear all, need some advice.. If you have a chance to choose Pei Hwa (because ds1 is there), ACS Junior and ACS Primary (2b within 1km). Which one would you choose?
We don't mind the distance, or siblings not in the same school. I like ACS because of its focus in sports, affiliation to ACS secondary school, less academic driven than pei hwa. We like Pei Hwa because of it's focus in chinese and the discipline. Would you have any preference? -
Ds1 had guaranteed entry to Pei Hwa, and though we go to Methodist church, we didn’t apply for membership, so if we try acs then, we would only be in phase 2c 1km balloting.
I always like ACS. I was from ACJC I found the boys healthy and athletic, not as snobbish as what people say. Sometimes boys when they are too artistic, they might not be so positive and sunshine… I find sports are extremely important to boys. Where they learn sportsmanship, discipline, strategy, keep the energy going.
But some of my friends think I shouldnt. Because Pei Hwa is also a very good school.
What about between acs primary and acs junior? -
Littlekohs:
since you were from acjc, i am sure you know of the strong bond this family has. everyone tells dh and myself that once a acs boy, always a acs boy regardless of race, language, religon, age or location. dh finds this very true because the past few years he had attended a no. of meetings/conference etc in different locations and many a times when people knew that they have acs in common, they just flocked together to bond.Ds1 had guaranteed entry to Pei Hwa, and though we go to Methodist church, we didn't apply for membership, so if we try acs then, we would only be in phase 2c 1km balloting.

i dont know much about junior except that it is more result driven, imho. we prefer acsp which we think is more character building and relax in the lower primary. i find the boys there a bit cheeky (which i like) and full of energy and very positive, and as you said, not all boys/parents/teachers are snobbish. overall, we know we made the right choice. -

Really? Hmmm...I thought it was the other way around! But I didn't really look into those things when we registered our boy.

All I know is that P1 in JS is their honeymoon year. So DS1 hasn't had any homework, or exams and school has been fun and games for him. It's been totally stressless and relaxed this year. I'm hoping it will be the same next year.
I'm also quite pleased that he enjoys chapel and has remembered the teaching from chapel. -

haha, like i said in my earlier post, just my humble opinion.
both are good schools and one family for life. -
Ya. The school spirit is very strong. DH says none of our sons will be allowed to go to any other school EVER.
Anyway, I think both schools provide a learning environment that’s a lot less stressful than many other primary schools. I think it’s always been that way.
Littlekohs: You might want to consider which school is easier to get in. ACPS is usually harder to get in than ACJS. I think at 1km, there is a higher chance you’ll need to ballot for PS than JS, even if you qualify at 2B. Perhaps this is because PS has a lot more old boys who take up the 2A places (?) combined with the fact that it is the more established school? However, as we have learned, past performance is not indicative of future performance, so going forward, who is to say you won’t need to ballot of 2B <1km for JS. You’ll probably need to monitor the situation during the registration process. -
But littlekohs, you must make sure you can get to phase2b.
2c 1km in acsp and acsj may need balloting which I will then recommend u to go with pei Hwa instead. -
Thanks everybody, I think I know the answer.
