      mutree:
      HI mummies,

My girl will be going to p 1 compassion 2 days later. Nice to meet all the helpful mummies here.
Can i ask for advice for the following?
1)other than pencil case, help mate, clear folder, purse, what else must primary 1gal bring for first day of school?
      2) is it really necessary to by crayons of 50 colours as stated on the book list? Sounded a bit redundant and heavy to carry …
3)if my gal is not taking school bus, where should I tell her to wait at the end of the school day? Will they be allowed to Just sit near the drop off point? Or there is a specific location arranged by the school as i can foresee a big mass on the first day...

Thanks a lot! And happy new year!
Hi mutree, if you did not hand in the forms (Giro or consent form for catechism class) that you are suppose to fill in the classrooms and hand over to teacher on Orientation Day in classroom, you need to bring down those forms (if any) and get your child to pass to her form teacher on first day of school.

I bought the crayons as stated on the booklist and I will not let my child bring it to school on first day of school because there will not be any formal art lesson on first day. The crayons are meant for bringing to school for Art & Craft Day. Timetable should be given on first day of school. Maybe let your girl bring a box of coloured pencils to school instead.

If your girl is not taking school bus, you should meet her at the foyer(near office) to pick her up. The teacher should be doing the dismissal in the evening.

If you are going to drive to fetch your child, do note that there is a long waiting line of cars. The school bus children will have priority to leave MCS in school bus after 6.30pm. After that, cars will be allowed into the school to fetch the child. If you do not want to waste petrol and time waiting in the long queue of cars, head to MCS to fetch your child at about 6.45pm to 6.50pm after the crowd has cleared. There will be teachers around to facilitate dismissal. This advice was given by a friend whose dd was previously studying in afternoon session in MCS.

How to know which route the bus driver use if you have no intention to follow the driver? Pass an iPhone to the child and let child keep in bag. iPhone has a function called Find my iPhone. Use that function and from the parents' iPhones, can track where is the location of the child when the child is on school bus. Talk about technology 🙂

            Sembgal,

Thanks for the detailed list! That's super useful!

BTW, just to check, we are allowed to be in the school the whole day or just during recess? Cos my school bus says I can go with them to and fro school on the first day, cos there're enough seats on the bus. So now I'm wondering if I'm allowed to stay in school or got to leave and come back during recess etc...
Hi lil_jade, for first day, I suppose they will allow parents to remain in school from 2.30pm to 3.30pm for recess break. For other timing, if no staff ask you to leave, continue to stay in school. But if staff request you to leave, you may go shopping outside to kill time first while DD is in school.

For parents to be on board the school bus, some drivers may not allow as it flout the LTA rule or something. If your driver follow strictly to LTA regulations, then it's a No to parents to be on board the bus.

Yes, I m rather blur. was not aware that \"books to be handed in\" means books to bring. I thought initially those are books to be handed to my gal by the teacher. I m now packing the bag but I dun seem to see any \"wide single line exercise book\" in my box of books or in the book list... It is not referring to the \"A6 blue note book\", right? and shaping maths to bring activity book only? No need the coursebook? Really appreciate if someone could enlighten me.

I got her a non trolley bag. normal pencil since there is a mention of sharpener. Decided to get those colour pencils later after finding out more. Trying to keep things as light - weight as possible..

Counting down in 1hour and 7 mins....

                  🙂
I didn't see the wide single line exercise book too. Hubby asked me if we did not buy. I checked through booklist that we bought everything so cannot be we forgot to buy that wide single line exercise book. I think the Orientation file has another error again. I told my husband to ignore that book as book list not indicated to buy though Orientation file indicated to bring on first day.

The bag is heavy after packing all the essential items to be brought to school on first day. Hubby said to take out half of the books and pass the remaining to teacher on another day. I told him tomorrow's bag load is just 'appetizer', there is even heavier load to carry once timetable is out.

My DD said she will wait for teacher to remind class to drink water and then she will drink. I don't know to laugh or to cry. She still think primary school is like kindergarten mode. Haha. I believe she will have a very interesting and exciting day on her first day of school.

Finally sent DD to school. Principal, vice-principals and teachers were there at foyer to welcome the P1girls. I have seen my DD’s form teacher. I know my DD is in safe hands. I’m pleased with how organized the staff receive the new girls.

Most children loaded into school bus by 6.15pm already. About 6.45pm bus left school. Road jam because peak hour. Waiting for DD to reach home and we go celebrate her first day of school by treating her to a big meal;)
