Sometimes bad things happened for a good reason.

Today, I picked my son from the childcare ctr as usual. On our way home, he fell asleep in his car seat and peed by accident. This is very unusual - firstly, it was only 6.30pm. Secondly, it was a short drive about 5min. thirdly, since he "graduated from potty training", he has never accident before. Never. Today it is the first time,

Needless to say, I am not thrilled at all. I had some grand plans for the evening - I wanted to char bee hoon, make Kim chi salad, do some washing. Ended up, I needed to clean up the car, the car seat and scrub some clothes. Upon reaching home, I went on to settle my kid first - clean him up, change him and make sure he is comfortable. Then I went to the car to bring back the car seat. Car seat would need some cleaning definitely. As I as trying to remove the car eat from its position, I realized something was not right.

You see, my little son is still using the Group 2/3 car seat that requires the seat belt to restrain. When I tried to loosen the seat belt, I realized in horror that the seat belt had been released! While my son would still be restrained by the car seat belt, the car seat was not exactly/safely held on by the seat belt. Can you imagine how dangerous it is?

So he could not hv "accidentally peed" a better time!

Yeah , whatever happens , happens for good. It's very important to remember that. Often , I too often forget that in the daily routine of things.

Let me share a similar incident. We were on a vacation in Bali. On the fourth day , my son fell and needed to have 4 stitches ,I was very tense and worried, partly blamed myself , going thru if only scenarios. ( the fall itself is another thing I learnt from insider's lesson as a seed I planted)

We had planned to go volcano climbing in a couple of days. It's a trek which starts at 4am, we leave hotel at 2 am. It was something challenging and all of us especially my DD was really really looking forward to it. We decided to go ahead. The next day when I spoke to the guide, he advised me that the trek would be a challenge for an 8 year old as it is. And with an injury he would recommend we drop it. Reluctantly , we agreed. The kids were very dissappointed. I should have been too. But once we took the decision, I felt an enormous relief. Almost unexplainable relief. I had not even realized I was that worried.

I later read a report that same day we were supposed to trek , another Singaporean tourist ( with very similar profile as DH) suffered a heart attack and died during that trek.

deja vu? Coincidence? I dont know ...
        But thank god we cancelled.

          Gosh.. 😓

Sun, I felt chills down my spine as I read the last part of your post.... Scary.

My car seat incident was felt deeply by me becos I tend to drive fast whenever there is a chance (with or without my son, I drive fast). And with weekends come the chance to step on the accelerator more often than the usual weekdays. But I don't speed excessively, not 150km/hr kind.... No. The car seat is still at home, drying. each time I passed it, I shuddered at what could happen 😓 :nailbite:

          Scary....

Talking about speed and driving, my little one has great feel about speed. Since we taught him about the rationale of driving slowly on slippery road, he had never failed to remind me to slow down whenever he was in the car with me. The strangest part was - it seemed he could feel how fast we are going. Whenever the speedometer shows more than 50km/hr, he would say,\"mummy slow down, slow down\". As he was sitting at the back, he couldn't have seen the speedometer and we had never told him how to read it. As strange as this is, I can hit 130km/hr on a dry day and he will just keep quiet. :?

            Killer driver :yikes: :yikes:

You are aware Singapore road is 60km/hr for most normal roads and highway speed limit is 90km/hr ?

Speeding not only endanger yourself... more importantly please do not implicate other innocent road users in case of an accident.

But of cos. Capable of speed doesn't mean one is reckless or unskilled. A reckless or poorly skilled driver who drives fast is foolish. I am neither. You talk like you have seen me drive.

An experienced driver knows that there are many factors at play on the road than just his own level of skill.

Definitely. It is just looking at things on the surface to decide that speed is the reason for accidents on the road.

A speed limit of 90km/h is imposed on our expressways for a reason. Speeding at 130 km/h, if caught, will be haul to court and license suspended.
