Someone mentioned starting gym in 30s.

Body Can still turn somersault, can still do hand stand … At age 30, with zero gym background ?

        Hi

        Yes. With zero gym background.
Of course, with a sporty background, you will generally learn a lot faster.

For Adult Gymnastics Class, the focus is learning Floor Exercise, (Handstand, cartwheel, rolls etc) over other apparatus.
This is because the learning curve is more gradual, more fun and variety as compared to the other apparatus.

I have personally taught a few ladies (and men) in their 30s, and my oldest student is at 62!

The 2 most common excuses adults gave themselves:
        - I'm not flexible, cannot do gymnastics
        - So old how to do, wait bone break.
is akin to saying (for basketball)
        - I cannot slam dunk, cannot do basketball
        - So old cannot run already, how to jump.

        IMHO :boogie:

This is a good chance to talk to your child about life.
We cannot have everything we want in life.
But, we have to make do and give it our best, even though it is not our first choice.

It is never too old to try dance, gymnastics, sport etc.
I see a lot of passionate people starting gymnastics in their 30s.
Something which they always wanted to do, but could not in their teens.

          IMHO :boogie:

Agreed...though it's easier said than done. But it's not too bad for my dd - she doesn't mind rhythmic gym (she just prefers chinese dance)

My dd eventually got in rhythmic gym (actually I'm surprised she's shortlisted/selected for it coz she has no gym background and she just started jazz dance outside of school 2 weeks ago). Hope she can cope with her studies as well....

No worries. They are still young and you should let them try as many activities as they are interested.
DD was in AG, RG and ballet when she was 5. Due to time clashed, change of coaches etc, she dropped RG... She was doing well in in ballet and AG and at pri 1, made it to the competitive team.
Fast forward to her at Pri 4 now. Due to the number of times she needed to train for AG and ballet, she has to make a choice between AG and ballet. She eventually drops AG. Her coach was shocked as AG was DD's life.
Having said that, DD always feels she has an advantage over her ballet mates as she is able to execute many moves with ease due to her AG background. Now she is only lacking in expression. She is also representing her dance school in competition.
LAst week when it came to selecting CCA, guess what she chose?.....
          Brownies!!!!!
I was like ... duh? Why not dance? It will aid you in your dance interest and even DSA, CCA points etc, etc....
Then, I took a step back. What are we doing? Why must everything we choose or do be so that our children will score better, get into 'good' schools....
I asked DD, \"Why Brownies?\" Her answer, \"Because after all I am an outdoor girl.\"
          And that's DD's CCA.

This is something new to me.....didn't know gymnastics can start as early as five months old??? From the pictures, the parents need to be with the kids during gym lessons.

Very expensive. I know it costs about $75 per lesson of 1 hour. If parents have the money, why not introduce it to the kid?

Private gym lessons are ex !

Normally they charge around $70 per lesson, for 2 hrs duration.
if is 1 hour, they charge around $35 per lesson.
There is also a difference in fees charged, between enrolment in recreational gym vs. competitive gym lessons.

If you want recreational gym -
                        Crestar have.
Training fees are charged by per term basis.
                        The coaches are all Japanese.
They are gymnastic trainers, from JacPac.
JacPac train both (Japanese + local) students from young, in Rhythmic gym.
Can call up Crestar, find out both training schedule and costs.
                        (if keen)

If you want competitive gym -
Can visit either Bishan Sports hall or the former Singapore Badminton hall.
                        (located at Guillemard Road)
They charge by per hour basis.
I saw some coaches coaching girls from (Marymount primary, Chij Kellock primary, Chij Toa Payoh primary, Townsville primary).

Chij St Nicholas primary SAP school have their own big training hall for gymnastics.
All phase 2a alumni members from St Nick with (k1, k2) kids can join.
No need to wait until Primary 1 then join.
Because Chij St Nicholas primary have their own pool of in-house school teachers to teach, they do not need to hire external professionals.
Thus, their training fees are very reasonable.

The same applies to Nanyang primary.
NYPS also have her own big hall, for weekly gym practice.
All phase 2a alumni members from Nyps with (k1, k2) kids can also go and join. No need to wait until Primary 1. Training fees are affordable.

The same also apply to Ai Tong primary.
She has her own hall for pupils to practise gym.
Alumni members from Ai Tong with kindergarten (k1, k2) kids may also go & enrol.

Learning gymnastics in primary schools is cheaper.
Some schools charge around $180+ per term, while others charge around $ 180 per entire year; yet others charge around $ 180 per Semester.

Actually, few primary schools offer both AG plus RG, together.
So far, only two schools offer both (AG + RG) training.
They are Marymount Convent & Chij St Nicholas primary.
Some schools offer either one gym only.
Most schools do not offer gym.

Thus, if your child is keen / interested to join gymnastics -
may consider to enrol your child into those primary school(s) that offer gymnastics as a CCA, during Primary 1 July registration.

                        Example

Chij Nativity primary does not offer any gymnastics CCA.

                        ============================================================

In contrast, Marymount Convent primary (MCS) is special, unique and rare gem.
She offer both Artistic gym (AG) and Rhythmic gym (RG) CCA.

MCS is going to build its own gym at its current site.
Marymount will shift to holding school, next year.

Holding school is the one currently used by Chij Toa Payoh primary girl(s) - as a temporary holding school, next to Braddell MRT.
It is great for Marymount primary to acquire brand new gym facilities, after their upgrading renovation.

                        @ Marymount Convent primary :-

For Lower primary recreational RG : training is once a week, 2 hours.

For Lower primary school team RG : training is twice a week, 2 hours.

For Lower primary recreational AG : training is twice a week, 2 hours.

For Upper primary school team(s) :
training can be intensive as 3 to 4 times per week : between 2 to 3 hours.

External professional gym coaches are hired by Marymount, to teach the girls.
Training Fees (affordable) = below $200, per Semester (paid every 6 months).
