Yup, I think mine calls it Governance and State or Thinking, along that line. I don’t know what contents are covered. Social studies (examinable) only during P4-6.

If 70 is required for 2 pure sciences then even tougher for triple sciences… there will b only 1 triple, 2 double n 1 combined science class so i think requirement slightly different…

            Sch dependent I think
            75 for triple sci
All express classes -8 or 9 classes in total , depend on cohort .
There is one Killer class ie 3 pure sci 2 elective humans,1 Ss, 2 math , hcl etc

son told me if he had to pure history in sec 3, he would have to study 4 books.

social studies is not going to be easy. basically I just dare not think of next year. settle year end exams for now followed by streaming after that.

Pure Geog is a live subject , rather project based n relavant to current context ( population , tourism , energy conservation , landscape chg due to physical temperate chg, employment , housing , immigration , birth rate , natural disasters etc ) I think it is useful to broaden the mind n read up what’s happening around the world , may have some relevance n application to GP at A level - logical / critical writing skills. History really need a lot of memory work ;love of Eng language ( my child is history elective , dun think he enjoys the memory work for exam)

It is just Geography or History. We like Geography.

it's about interest. but history is dry. geography is more lively. son took elective history and the memorising work really is killing and social studies is all about propaganda...just like having MIW doing campaign rounds before GE.

                        wonder mom:

Hi my daughter is in sec2 now. She would like to get into business line, in future. What subjects should she aim for, in sec3.

If she wants to be a business woman or entrepreneur, ensure she is good in Math. Take double Math if possible. I always believe you must be good in arithmetic to be a businessman. If you are slow in calculations, you lose in negotiations.

Have some relatives who can't count but are very creative. They're always losing money in their start-ups. A lot of lofty ambitions, bought expensive fixed assets, invested loads on packaging and ID, but could not make profits.

Another subject she might find useful, albeit at 101 level, is Geog. Take a look at the syllabus,

                        https://www.seab.gov.sg/content/syllabus/olevel/2017Syllabus/2236_2017.pdf

She may find THEME 2 (Human Geog) and THEME 3 (Data collection & interpretation) useful. We don't know what she'll market or sell in future. But will be fun to have some exposure at 16.

(iii) Questionnaires – In human geography, consideration should be given to factors influencing the successful design of questionnaires (e.g. layout, format and wording of questions and the number of questions) and the conduct of the questionnaires (e.g. the sampling methods – random, systematic, stratified, pilot survey, and location of survey).
(iv) Interviews – This method should be used to collect in-depth information from a specific person or group of people. The interviewer should be reflective and take into consideration issues such as gender, experience and socio-economic status and also observe interview etiquette.

I would disagree regarding maths. The kind of maths that you cover in school is not going to be relevant in the real world. It may be worth her looking at statistics or business studies type of courses later on if she wants an understanding of how to run a business. If she is not great at maths then it may be better to stick with E maths and have more time for other subjects. My daughter wanted to do A maths just because she thought she should and because of the \"prestige\" but we have persuaded her not to do it- although I doubt she is going to qualify anyway!
