CJC drop is huge...but heard that they have to increase cohort from 600+ to 900+...no wonder
That is 50% increase! I wonder whether they have enough experienced teachers.

        Nyjc is 7 and 8.

        Seems like NYJC dropped too
But seems holding on well with slight drop compared with the rest.

It is expected as students intake has been increased as per MOE direction due to mergers. Once top schools increase their intake, the rest is like domino effect.

CJC drop is huge...but heard that they have to increase cohort from 600+ to 900+...no wonder[/quote]Quite significant changes for many JCs, especially those with a huge increase in intake such as cjc.

Drop of 1 point is common for most JCs...except for a few exception like CJC due to the huge increase in cohort. I understand NYJC did not increase the intake by a lot.....

compared to last year (2017) cut off point, for Science stream :-

                  a)
                  drop 1 point

(Raffles Institution, Hwa Chong, Victoria, Nanyang, Temasek, Eunoia ) JCs : drop 1 point

was the increase in intake to (Nanyang, Temasek, Eunoia) plus the other Top three JCs : huge ?
how many more JC1 seats (intake) did these increase ?

                  b)
                  drop 2 points

(National, Anglo-Chinese, St Andrew ) JCs : drop 2 points

was the increase in intake to (National, ACJC, SAJC) JCs : substantial ?
how many did these increase ? increase, by opening up one or two more extra Science classes ?

                  c)
                  drop 4 points

Catholic JC : drop 4 points (from 11 to 15), due to huge increase in intake

                  d)
                  drop 3 points

merged JCs : expected to drop

                  eg

Anderson JC merged with Serangoon JC, absorbed Serangoon's cohort

become 12 now, had expected a drop of 3 points (from 9 to 12), and it happened !
(12 points was Serangoon JC Cut-off Point, in 2017 Science stream)

Meridian JC merged with Tampines JC : absorbed Tampines cohort.

become 14 now, had expected a drop of 3 points (from 11 to 14), and it happened !
(14 points was Tampines JC Cut-off-Point, in 2017 Science stream)

It also reflects that the overall performance of 2017 cohort has ‘worsened’. However, it may be due to tougher papers set but the moderators have used the same benchmark as last year to determine each grade?

For those merged JCs like Anderson, Meridian, wondering how they going to teach the A-level students ?

                      eg

Since Anderson merged with Serangoon cohort : for Science stream, are they going to teach at the original faster pace of Anderson, or at a slightly slower pace now, after merging ?

What kind of teaching pace, are they going to pitch at ?

(the same question apply to Meridian / Tampines merge)

IMHO, the 3-point gap is not that big to warrant any changes. The JAE bonus points are already contributing up to 4-pt difference between students within the same JC. Who knows, the teachers in MJC & TPJC might have been giving lessons of similar standard to their pupils in the past and hence the merging is not going to affect much. However, it's the ability of the majority students to handle the actual A level exam that will make a difference to the JC's performance.
On the other hand, EJC teachers might have a greater headache on how to strike a balance in teaching the IPs and the JAEs.
                        Their gap seems even bigger.
