I am also thinking of going to Dr Jerry Tan.

For those who had their lasik with him, may I know how long did you wait to book your first appointment?

Also, from first time you see him till final procedure on 2nd eye, how long was the time frame?

Started my love affair with glasses since 8 yo . After 30 yrs, we decide to go our own way, so I did the surgery last year.


Had wanted to do it for the longest while, but costs as well as fear held me back. Earlier last year, noticed signs of long-sightedness :shock: . Was thinking: No, no, no :nailbite: , I don't want to wear bi-focal lenses. My myopia is a scary 1000+ degree on right eye and 900+ on left eye(actually considered legally blind in some countries :oops: ).

I did the mono vision correction to enable near work (reading, pc). My right eye which is the dominent eye is perfect vision, where my left is left with about 100 degrees to help \"correct\" my long-sightedness.

After surgery, took about 6 months for the eyes/brain to get used to new vision. Now, still hv slight blur at night due to astig, otherwise, definately a happier and safer person.
:celebrate: Now, DH no longer had to worry about me killing myself trying to catch a bus/cross the road at night, especially when its raining.

Hi MLR,

need your advice on mono vision correction.

I am in my early 40s and have been wearing contact lens of 20+ years. Problem is it gets uncomfortable over time. I am seriously thinking of lasik but at the same time worry abt the lao hua which is kicking in soon.
Should i wait till I hv lao hua before doing lasik?

Sadly, not everyone is suitable for Lasik. While my mum went for it 2 years back, I am unable to go for it due to thin corneas. The next best thing would be artificial implants which would cost $4k per eye.

Mrswongtuition, how old is yr mum? any difficulty with the lao hua part after lasik?

Read an article in the papers recently abt this lady who has the right eye corrected by lasik and the left one by implant. the result of implant is better. Disadv is that it carries higher risk of infection.

btw, anyone has done implants and care to share?

My mum did it when she was in her early 50s.
She had no probs with lao hua.

Only prob is that she has diabetes, so it's giving her other eye problems (cataract). In fact, she's now with TTSH to follow up on the cataract and the doctors suggested implants for her - at subsidized rates cos it's a medical necessity, not an aesthetic reason.

My friend has done implants and she told me that when she gets sore eyes, she must quickly go back to see the doc for antibiotic eye drops. Seems quite scary. The price is also another factor that I'm holding back. 8K for perfect eyesight so that I need not wear glasses? I rather save it for my son

I hv booked an evaluation appt 2 wks from now after attending the talk yesterday. Will see what the doctor suggest. I am so sick of the discomfort with contact lens (and also not cheap wearing disposal lens) and really hope lasik can help. Just worry abt the lao hua part.

Anyone has tried epi-lasik? I heard that it is less risky compared to lasik but takes longer to recover. How about night vision? I heard night vision takes a longer time to recover too (like seeing starburst, halo, etc.)


I’m thinking of doing lasik/epi-lasik, but kind of kia-si, afraid of side effects lah… Mine is not very serious myopia, about +3.00, so afraid about lao hua later on, so please advise!
