      Hi there,

dropping A.Math shouldn’t affect entry into a good JC provided he can be certain of getting good grades for his other subjects. But he may have to struggle when doing H2 math. How is he doing for Elementary Math?

      Regards
      Sheryl

I do have student who is from the Normal Academic Stream who does not take A.Math in school. Currently, he is taking A.Math tuition at a tuition centre to help prepare him for ‘N’ level A. Math next year. I guess if your child can cope and is really keen on taking A.Math, you may want to either enrol him in a tuition centre or engage a 1-1 tutor.

          Bounty:
Thank you for all your replies and guidance. I did call MOE and they said that I should register through the school and do the Course privately....

I cannot register as a private candidate. Yes, I don't know how much she can be coached privately...
Please do let me know of other solutions. Thank you so very much.

There is a tuition centre located in Bukit Timah Plaza, something like 3rd floor. The math teacher Mr Koh TB has been teaching math for few decades, formerly a further math teacher of a JC who quit to do tuition full time. All students taught by him do extremely well in math exam. If your child is enthusiastic about math, better start early then.

I have students who had F9 for A Maths just 3 months before O levels, sought help from us and managed to get A1 to B4 grades in the actual O levels. It is worth doing Add Maths well whether for A levels or Poly because H1/H2 Maths will build on Add Maths concepts, and poly students get to skip doing Add Maths module in favour of other modules.

Shinglee E Maths and A Maths workbooks. (companion to the Shinglee textbook)

Many good JCs or average JCs require AMath as a pre-requisite for H2 Math.

Some JCs like TPJC might allow the student to take H2 math without AMath but it's going to be an uphill task for the student. It's going to be a real struggle because A Math is the foundation for H2 math.

Without H2 math, many courses in NUS/NTU will not be available to an applicant.

You may check out what I said with the prospectus in NUS/NTU as well as JC websites.

My sis' Maths was terrible too. We got a HOD Maths from a Secondary school to coach her 1-to-1 for E & A Maths. She got A2 for E Maths and B3 for A Maths. Very good for my sister who used to fail A Maths and borderline pass E Maths.

If you are willing to spend on a good tutor, it's not too late now. Still have 9+ months to prepare 🙂

I am back again. Thank you for your all your help.

I have spoken to my daughter’s school Prinicpal. I have the option of doing the subject privately as an additional subject and the school will register her for the O Level exam through the school. This is what MOE also told me.
So now, could anyone recommend me a good teacher who can teach her the complete school curriculum on a one-to-one tuition at home (or any other suggestions)? And the rates of course. I live in Woodlands.

                        hi,

Any good tutors or tuition centre to recommend for S1 Maths? My girl is in IP and she is often given challenging maths questions outside the normal syllabus, and I hv difficulty coaching her.

                        thanks!
