Hi everyone, I'm a sahm with 3 boys 12-14. So glad they've all finished PSLE. It's tough being a parent in this age. It's tough being ftwm n having to supervise homework n take care of the home, but at times I feel it's worse being sahm cos if your kids don't turn out well, people kinda look at you n wonder what you've been doing at home.if you're ftwm you can at least say you were working your butt off what more do they expect you to do?? Worst is when your kids turn out well n you get no acknowledgement on top of no pay, no leave n no fixed working hours. Still, it's been a great ride being sahm n I wouldn't have wanted it any other way.
I have a full time helper n we have a 5 seater SUV n an MPV which is really needed only on some weekends when in laws visit, so I'd say its not really necessary. the boys have Chinese tuition from time to time and are able to walk to class so I've become quite redundant... But they still enjoy being picked up:-) financially, it saves a lot not having to pay for so much tuition.
Although I wouldn't trade my boys for the world, I can totally see why some people just don't want to have kids. To each his own, I guess, but kudos to all of you here for having so many! :celebrate:

RE: How to tell if a child is gifted?
sunshine05:
Or anyone has any idea to get the IQ test done?
You can go to a private psychologist to do the Weshchler WISC-IV test. Think it's about $400. I don't know what range of IQ qualifies as exceptionally gifted for MOE to allow early entry to P1, but I'm pretty sure it has to be at least 150. There's a psychologist at Kids Testing n Dyslexia who administers this test. -
RE: Thermal pot
Someone just gave me a 4.5 L Zojiroshi without the instructions n told me the outer pot cannot be washed or it’ll lose its efficacy. Sounds absurd to me. Any comments on this??

RE: Bukit Timah Primary
Thank you, Mapleleaf n markfch:-) Mapleleaf, BTPS was my first choice cos there was no balloting at that time n I knew from my SIL whose 2 kids went there n got into GEP that it was a good school. I also didn’t want to do any PV work – lazy mom:-( so don’t feel too disheartened that you didn’t get NYPS. There are kids in NYPS who don’t do well too, n kids in BTPS who do well.

I heard from my ex-colleague that BTPS is a very good sch. His 2 dds are currently studying there. As a matter of fact, recently heard that BTPS produces lots of GEP students every year.
It is a very decent school, nice neighbourhood. My 3 boys started there in P1 n 2 transferred out cos of GEP. 2 of their cousins too. N a few of my friends' kids too. N none of our kids was coached for GEP or had any tuition except for some Chinese tuition. You don't get the kind of resources like in the more popular schools but it's really not bad at all. My son who didn't get into GEP managed a DSA into a premier boy's school through academics n my kids didn't have any tuition except for Chinese at some point so I think your kids are in pretty good hands.mintee:
Just curious, who actually choose BTPS as first choice? :?
NYPS was my first choice, however was balloted out at 2C.
Nevertheless, DS is still excited about BTPS because there is no need to tuck in the school shirt. -
RE: Raffles Institution (Year 1-4)
Registration was a cinch today thanks to all the helpful advice given here about preordering of books n when n where to buy uniforms and PE attire. There were 3 separate areas for books, uniforms n PE attire with long queues in each place. All we had to do was pick up his preordered books- no queue at all. Many thanks for all the kind tips n merry Christmas!

RE: Hwa Chong Institution (High School)
I believe the mainstreamers who are placed in iSpark are those who score well in the GAT.

RE: All About Dental
That sounds about right. My son just had 4 teeth extracted n surgery to remove 2 embedded teeth. Cost was $2200 for surgeon n $500 for anaesthetist. He was sedated in the clinic.

RE: Any Chinese Physician to recommend? :)
For women’s menstruation, try Liu Yishi 刘医师 90038258. You have to be patient tho cos it does take a while to regulate if its irregular. She’s a qualified western doctor from Taiwan who trained in tcm in China so you get the best of both worlds even if she does not practise western medicine here. She also treats kids with appetite problems n other ailments in general.
