My girl ballet class and exam postponed. But school giving free online weekly class. So that they don’t forget their moves.

Wang Lao Shi and Mindstrecher have similar arrangement. Classes conducted via ZOOM. Hardcopy notes collected from centre and then returned to centre for marking. I am actually curious to see how the teachers conduct their classes.

Great! With these new measures kicking in, straight away from airport go to dedicated quarantine facilities (like hotels), I feel safer on the whole and it will also reduce cross-infection risks for their family members as well as avoid thorny logistical issues like preparing food/laundry etc.lee_yl\" post_id=\"1968321\" time=\"1585055819\" user_id=\"17023:

Those residents arriving back to SG after 11.59pm fr UK, US will hv to stay in hotels & not home to limit spread.
Also, consequences for those Singapore residents who insists on travelling abroad despite advisory against travel will hv to pay for own medical expenses in public hospitals, will not be allowed to claim from MediShield Life or Integrated Shield Plans for Covid-19 treatments.

Feel like the numbers are high and escalating
A lot of overseas citizens have been returning since last week , I m worry a lot already mingle at home with relatives etc
Took them so long to realise their folly :slapshead:
Should have implemented this before school started today. -

Agree that e-learning cannot replace face to face learning. If they extend the suspension beyond April, I think I will cancel the classes. I will just buy the notes and teach.
Even if tuition centre were to give e-learning, the effect is VERY different from classroom learning, face to faceFantasyLandDreams\" post_id=\"1968330\" time=\"1585058341\" user_id=\"105816:
Saw on fb page of a few tuition centres that they will switch to zoom online lessons. No mention of refund. I guess we have to call up tomorrow to confirm, probably really ‘hotline’ tomorrow.
for example
During Chinese Comprehension lessons,
if a P6 student don't understand why laoshi give this \"li jie wen da\" answer, straightaway, inside the classroom at Wang lao shi, student can ask, clarify with tuition teacher on the spot.
But via e-learning, if child dont know, don't understand, how to verify ?
Anyway, parents pay tuition centre, is to have classromm learning face to face for their kids, not pay fees for their children to learn e-learning.
E-learning :
parents can accept, if primary schools conduct e-learning. In schools, Yes, parents can accept e-learning
But at tuition centre, No, don't think parents welcome the idea of e-learning
might as well go Popular bookshop, buy an Assessment book, let their child practise at home, instead of attend tuition centre, waste $ and time travelling up and down, to and fro to centre, just for e-learning -

The tricky thing is the returned family member could be asymptomatic. While they have protected their own elderly family member by moving them to another household, the other family members who are still staying in the same household could have caught the virus and spread to others. Unless they also stay at home for 14 days.
I’m not sure if I missed the point.
There’s so much resources we hv within small reddot SG. Some families prefer to hv their family members under same roof by choice. Some do not feel they want to hv family member out alone in hotel, so they still take precautions for distancing with careful hygiene practices & distancing - self lockdown at home. We’re not talking abt confirmed COVID right? If they’re tested positive or fall I’ll, then they shld get into hospital for appropriate treatment
My frd’s daughter coming back fr US & ano fr UK, but both chose to hv their beloved home. One hv a dementia mother, whom they’re indeed concern for but arrange with ano sister to care for his mum. I’m thankful enuf we hv sons & daughter’s back fr seriously widespread places. Hope they’re cleared after 14-days self-quarantine & life life as normal as possible with the rest of family members under one roof. -

For students with siblings returning from overseas, are these students required to stay away from school for 14 days?
Friend’s kid also just returned from UK and was tested positive for Covid-19 virus. Should have more confirmed cases (to come) from these overseas returnees !!Estéema\" post_id=\"1967906\" time=\"1584748443\" user_id=\"66413:
A friend’s daughter just managed to leave on domestic flight fr Newark just before NY governor ordered lockdown starting Sunday. Fortunately, she fly out Saturday local time. It was such a relieve for all of us tracking her since she left Carolina. Hope no sons or daughters of SG get stuck in the US!

Many of them still have siblings studying in our local schools (sec / JCs). 14 day LOA but still staying under the same roof, albeit in different bedrooms. Not sure if they will stick strictly to the MOH advisory to minimize contact with their family members.
Our govt quarantine facilities full to the max already? Else why not reduce the risk by asking the returnees to go to the Chalets for the time being? -

Those returning by tomorrow will not be subjected to the SHN...their children will still attend school and enrichment classes
I still see moderate numbers of secondary school students going back to school during these March holidays.
MOH has said that they won’t order school closures unless they start seeing evidence of the school-going age group being at higher risk, or of them being super-spreaders to vulnerable family members.
In any case, we can expect plenty of kids whose parents have happily taken them on overseas holiday cos unwilling to cancel or whatever, waiting out their compulsory 14-day SHN, which will last till 1-2 weeks after Term 2 starts. I’d expect many classrooms to be less than full when Term 2 reopens.
That should buy us a bit more time, flatten the curve a little bit.
RE: Corona Virus Disease (COVID-19) Updates
Just came back from ntuc. Replenished most of the stuff except toilet paper…bought slightly more ready to eat food to stock up…just in case.
Life is as per normal. We still dine out but avoid going to town or tourist popular places. DD still attend enrichment classes and I go for my exercise classes.
Saw the movie troll with DD2 yesterday. Only a few audiences…enjoyed the movie
On crowded trains, then we wear masks. Use sanitisers and wash hands more often.
Largely, life as per normal. -
RE: Writers@Work
My P2 girl is currently attending writing class at Mind Strecher. They teach writing techniques and actual compo writing is only once a month. They will complete the writing in class and teacher will return the marked compo, usually a week later. Model compo is provided and there is no need to do a second draft.
I was looking through the Writers@Work worksheets and realised that they do a compo almost every week. The 5W1H method is used in the compo discussion. Like Mind Strecher, helping phrases are provided. I like it that they seem to do more compo writing than MS. But my question is do they teach writing techniques like story setting, plot, building story climax? Also, do they complete the compo in class? Are they required to do a second draft?
I am also considering The Write Connection. From the forum discussion, I understand that they do one compo a month. The first draft is completed in class. Students are then required to do a second draft which will be marked by teacher. Do they teach writing techniques? Are helping phrases provided?
For parents who are familiar with the three centres, may I know what made you decide on which centre to select?
