RE: Compare RGS vs NYGH
678Yess:
what is done these two sxhool needs to be answerable to the general public. I was saying the policy adopted by nygh is not fair to each applicant. Since they are funded by tax payer money through, every applicant shd be treated equally.Meritocarcy is the fundamental of our society.
Hi 678Yess, there is no right or wrong DSA approach by nygh. The head of the school has the right to decide what kind of students they want for DSA. When your kids are in uni going age, you will realize that most top unis (e.g. Harvard, MIT) prefers diversity and uniqueness. They definitely do not want students from the same mould and factory, no doubt many are straight A students. For instance, this year MIT accepted 4 or 5 students from S'pore. Mind you, none from RI and HCI. And one of them is from poly! -
RE: All About Universities
One of the reasons students choose NTU over NUS is the attractive scholarship offered to top students.
For NTU, bond free scholarship (Nanyang/College Scholarship) is given more readily to top students e.g. those with UAS 87.5 and above. I know quite a number of 7As/8As students who choose NTU over NUS when everything seems equal (e.g course that they like are offered in both unis) because of the scholarship. Distance is not a problem as students can stay in the hostel, which is also covered by the scholarship.
Employers don’t look at which local uni the students come from. They look at individual’s capability, their academic achievements, how they perform during selection tests and interviews, if they fit into the firm’s culture etc. -

For student handbook, it will be given to your child in class.Qns
On year 1 Time Table, Thursday 4-6pm, there are 2 entries, PC1331 and CM1331. So how do the students know which one to attend?
Both are enrichment modules, your child has to sign up for it (choose 1 if they are at same time slot) via Module Registration, starting 9 Jan. Be sure to be early, else if demand is high, he may not get the module that he wants. It is first come first serve. -

CS modules start with CSxxxx. If you don’t see it in the Y1 timetable now, most likely it will be in sem2.

I, too, doubt it can cover the subsidies, esp if you belong to the GHI > $5K group. I heard from DS1, I think they had a briefing a few weeks ago. Boarding is still compulsory for next year's batch but after that, it may not. My guess is maybe they will continue to provide subsidies to lower income groups but others may have to pay full $700 per month. Another possibility is not full year boarding .... But it's just my guess only.
Those on financial assistance will get subsidy of 33% to 100% for year 5 boarding, that has always been the case. It would be very unreasonable to make compulsory full year boarding if there is no subsidy next year. Without subsidy, I think 1-term or 2-term boarding is good enough, for the experience. -

Thanks. But we haven't heard anything fr the school yet. About the part on utilizing school funds/donations, I am not sure if it can cover the subsidies, which is about $350 per year 5 student, per month. Anyway, where did you get the info about next year boarding still being compulsory as well as there will be funds/donations? Thanks again.macflashpay:
Is there no more government subsidies for year 5 boarding? Without subsidy, and with no EESIS or ESIP scholarship, it costs $320+$700 per mth for year 5. That is a huge sum. Is there still compulsory boarding for year 5, or is it optional?
Next year Year 5 is still compulsory. But was told will utilise some of school funds/donations. Probably after that not compulsory anymore. Even with EESIS, it's still a big sum if you have 2 kids going boarding. It's like having another car
