      Hi Kidsshouldbekids,

Care to share with us why you think the SCGS is changing but not for the better?

The changes are all after the new principal joined in 2007? or the changes are directed from MOE?

      Thanks!!

      kidsshouldbekids:
      Hi all,

From experience usually there are a handful who do not make it back. My girl tells me this year a handful did not make it back; however most already knew that before PSLE because they did badly in the mocks in at least 1 subject. When the school raises it to 210 next year, my guess - going by previous years' scores - is that the number will go up to a significant number, maybe half a class, because the 200 - 220 number is quite large.

By the way, if she is intending on going back to SCGS, then maybe she wants to consider whether to continue spending the time on higher chinese, which is not counted.

SCGS is changing, and not for the better I feel.... 😞

Hi, my girl will be in P1 next week.
Yes, they are changing the pri vice principal. (The pri. principal mentioned this during the P1 orientation).
My worry is that they may increase the cut-off point further by the time my girl in P6 in 2015. My friend has a daughter in MGS and told me that about two classes can't make it for their secondary school with their cut -off point (I think about 220 or 230). I am also very anxious to know the PSLE result for SCGS and how many students can't make it for the SCGS secondary.

They used to public their PSLE result in SCGS website but not anymore now and have no clue where to get the results.

      Anyone here can help?

      😞 😞

      Melodies,

My dd is not in P3 this year but Herbie's daughter is. My P1 dd is under Ms Lim. How about yours?

Not to worry about CCA in P1. Those mentioned during the Orientation day is optional, mainly come with enrichment classes. There are a lot more CCAs to join in P4. They will be given the forms when school re-opens.

I am not sure if they still have exams for P1 next year. Academically bright students will be grouped into one/two classes. The students do not stay in the same class throughout their 6 years. However, all the students are given chances to excel in all area regardless of whether they are academically strong or not.

      Hi,

I'm staying very near to SCGS and passing both roads everyday. The traffic is alright every morning (unless car broke down or special events in ACS) outside SCGS be it towards bukit timah road or towards Newton.

      mwchua:
      Dear all,

Just wondering how is the morning traffic situation at SCGS in the morning, let's say between 6.30-7am ?

I am referring to the direction going towards Bukit Timah Road (opposite to SCGS). Would imagine traffic will be bad outside SCGS (going towards Newton), but what about opposite direction ?

      Thank you.

      Rgds,
      Ming

      Hi Courage & Herbie,

Wow! congrats! your daughters are so bright!
Your daughters were accepted in GEP selection.
Care to share the reasons behind the decision for not joining GEP? If wanting to take up the GEP, must the girls be transferred out of the school?

I attended the P1 orientation yesterday.
was quite disappointed that I was not able to talk to the school to clear my queries 😞 . The form teacher was very busy to attend to parents in filling up the form ....

      My queries are:
      - whether have exam for P1 in 2010 and subsequently P2 in 2011 and so on?
      - will the student stay in the same class throughout the whole 6 years in Pri? or will all the top students in one class and poor students in another class? or well-mixed in a class for top and poor students? If there is no exam, how to screen top and poor students for class allocation? when will they do screening for class allocation?
      - they mentioned about the CCA for P1 students but didn't share with us on how to apply them...:?
      - any special or additional lessons/subjects for GEP students in SCGS?
BTW, Courage, which class is your girls in P1?

      Regards,

    • RE: All About GEP Schools

Which are the 7 IP schools?

      tankee:
      tamarind:

      http://www.moe.gov.sg/education/programmes/gifted-education-programme/gep-schools/

According to the above website :

      1. Gifted Education Programme (GEP)

MOE’s centrally run GEP is only available in Anglo-Chinese School (Independent) with classes at Secondary 2 and Secondary 4. At the end of 2008, pupils in Secondary 2 GEP will have to apply to join an Integrated Programme (IP) (if they are eligible) or an ‘O’-Level programme in the same school or another non-IP school, if they wish to offer the GCE ‘O’-Level Examination.

Since most of our pupils are enrolled in the IP from Secondary 1, the centrally run Secondary GEP will be phased out by end of 2008. Primary 6 GEP pupils who opt for a 4-year O-Level programme can enrol in schools with school-based special programmes at Secondary 1. In 2008, these schools are Anglo-Chinese School (Independent), Catholic High School (Secondary), Methodist Girls’ School and St Joseph’s Institution. Singapore Chinese Girls’ School will also offer a school-based special programme starting 2009.

In this page, MOE only said the the centrally run GEP in ACS secondary will end this year. MOE did not say anything about the primary school GEP ending this year. Is there any other news article ?

the centrally run GEP by MOE is only available in ACS(independent). But the School-Based Gift Education (SBGE) are still being offered in the 7 IP school.

      Hi Courage,

In addition to the confirmation slip stating the P1 orientation date & time, did you receive any formal invitation letter from school for the P1 orientation on 21 Nov 2009?

On the 2C balloting day, I thought I heard from the school that the school will send letter for the P1 orientation…
I am looking forward to receiving the letter but have yet to school…
