scgs has rejected me as a parent volunteer. No chance to go 2B liao

I am curious how many scgs has recruited their PV yearly. Or non?

My girl will register P1 in YR 2010.

And NC route is not suitable for me becos of heavy time commitment.

So want to seek your expertise advise.

I stay within 1km to SCGS (What is my chances in 2C?)
My parent stay within 1km to Nanyang (Can change my address to stay with my parent) What is my chances in 2C)

Thank you for all your advise.

SCGS last 4yrs no ballot within 1km for 2C.
NYPS only '07 no ballot within 1 km in the last 4yrs for 2C.

Did u try to apply PV at NYPS last year? The PV application properly closed end last year.

DO you think scgs will no ballot for next year registration, becos those born 2004 birth rate is the lowest.
When you say your parents are staying within 1km of Nanyang, do you mean that you will be moving in with your parents or that you intend to apply under your parents' address, and that your parents are looking after your child? Because if you're saying that your parents are guardians of your child, you need to make a statutory declaration and also you will qualify under 1-2km even though you stay within 1km of the school.

      what is SS portfolio ??

      Social Studies portfolio

Is it a school project on social studies ? Does most sch have such project ? How is it relevant to DSA ? My p5 son never had such thing at his sch. As far as i can remember the sch only asked them to work on young scientist project from science centre, which he din really put in much effort. I wonder if it's time we pay more attention to such projects....
GEP students submit several projects a year for Social Studies which are compiled into a portfolio. The schools tell them it's important although I don't know how useful it actually is for DSA.

Btw, the SS portfolio that the kids have compiled for 2 and a half years - is it of any use for DSA? The school kept emphasising the importance of the SS portfolio...

      Rosie:
Not sure if the figures are published. I heard from parents of different GEP cohorts about the ratio (2:1) before I attended the GEP briefing last year. During the briefing, the breakdown was disclosed and as expected was very close to that ratio mentioned. When I spoke to my child's paediatrician, whose boy was previously from the programme (in late 80s/early 90s) as well, he mentioned about the ratio too. His reasoning was that boys in general are better at tackling logical/IQ/Maths/general abilities questions. Hence, you see more boys than girls in these programmes.

The ratio might not be due just to IQ type questions. Has it occured to anyone that it might also have to do with government policies of wanting more boys in GEP. Social engineering, just like how they have quotas for the number of boys and girls in Medicine in University.

SCGS highly likely you can get in even if you stay > 2km if you have very deeeeeep pocket - can bypass balloting
      !
As far as I know, that is not true. In fact the old principal absolutely frowned upon such practices.

All DSA applicants for NJC are required to sit for their test, GEP students included.

    • RE: Is PSLE so important?

Results are marked and grades assigned based on Normal curve. So depending on how cohort does, an A* could be 90% this year and 80% another year. The T-Score is a comparison score among the entire cohort, not raw score.

From what I learnt, they first look at GAT score and academic (must be at least 85% for RI) then they look at what other speciality the child has. .

RI website says average 80%, not 85% leh:
      http://www.raffles.sg/dsasec1.html

By the way, what is the total GAT score upon? What is a good GAT score?

Min 80% applies only to GEP students. They are exempted from GAT if their average is more than 80%

    • RE: The period before PSLE

How many of you are concerned about burning out before PSLE? After the SA1, I’d say that our children are about ready to sit for the PSLE. The next few months are just about drilling. How boring is that for the child and will they suffer burn-out after a couple of months of this?
