slmkhoo:So my conclusion is that no matter what resources there are, supervision by teachers and parents is still necessary, probably until the student reaches at least upp sec age, and for many students, beyond. My sentiments exactly, slm. The MOE online resources are used to support the teacher's teaching. Even if they are used \"alone\", they are likely to be supplements to the teacher's teaching.

senseimichael:24hr-mum:whc is better? for scienceScience group tuition also suffers from one problem if the students are from different schools, as each school arranges their themes and topics differently by year (P3 and P4 one book, P5 and P6 another book). Some students end up studying way ahead while others do not get to cover what their school assesses.Got to agree on this one!Same problem faced when doi past year paper from other schools...topics covered can be diff.

Self-proclaimed \"gifted\" tutor not even NUS gradEdvantage | Sun Aug 5 2012http://www.edvantage.com.sg/edvantage/features/people/1242026/Self_proclaimed_gifted_tutor_not_even_NUS_grad.htmlhttp://static.edvantage.com.sg/site/servlet/linkableblob/edvantage/1222276/topImage/_Gifted_private_tutor_told_by_MOE_to_stop_lying-topImage.jpg\">Mr Kelvin Ong never graduated from the National University of Singapore (NUS) as a double mathematics major. In fact, he never attended the university, The Sunday Times reported.Last month the Education Ministry revealed that Mr Ong was neither a pupil nor teacher in the Gifted Education Programme. He then claimed that it was his mother who told him that he was from the gifted programme and he could not verify it because he does not have the records from the past.He went on to add that he was a relief teacher at Anglo-Chinese School's (Primary) from 2002 to 2003 and \"helped out\" with the gifted classes. This claim was then disputed by the school. ACS primary added that a check with all its long-serving teachers revealed that there was never a Kelvin Ong who taught there as a relief teacher. The Sunday Times revealed that Mr Ong had actually graduated from Nanyang Polytechnic with a diploma in 2000.He then worked as a physiotherapist at National University Hospital (NUH) before being asked to leave in 2004 over \"integrity\" issues. It was during this time when he was working at NUH that he had claimed he had been a relief teacher in ACS primary.

My DD went for the Speedmaths camp last June to prepare for her PSLE with her best friends (it was fun for her cos she was with her friends). As my DD did not have Maths tuition, I wanted her to learn other methods (besides those taught in school) to solve the problem. They gave quite a lot of notes which the kids can learn and do after the camp. They also attended a Science Intensive camp taught by a full time tutor to revise and reinforce their concepts. To make the lesson enjoyable for the kids (since it was June holiday), they had experiments before they were drilled on answering related process skills questions. My DD2 is currently taught by her and has been getting band 1 since P3.My DD2 is joining her camp for P4 this June with her best friend too.I want my kids to enjoy their holidays but learn something along the way too. Maybe I’m too kiasu!

Beautyful Minds:Not all good teachers are passionate, but all passionate teachers are good.Passion is what makes the teacher different, that makes the teacher take that extra mile, do that bit more research, all to help his students. Well said, Beautyful Minds!
