ms_chai:To think about it, when I was 12, I didn't have to go through such punishing system, did you?The system was definitely not this punishing and high stakes back then. Education standard is punishing parents and kids at younger and younger age...what used to be taught at P4-5 is now brought forwards. PSLE is the first major exam but the stakes are very high...is it necessary ??

reiner:hey... new thread yo...me looking for creative writing for my P1 kid... fri 730pm kinda.... pls recommend yah...Hmm... I'm not sure exactly where you are located, but you may be better off looking in the marine parade area for creative writing enrichment courses. From where I stay, most of the services are catered more for Math and Science in this area.

fable: My son is only in P2, so he hasn't got any tuition or academic enrichment classes. I figure my job in these first few years is to instill in him good learning habits and get him to be responsible for his own work. So I only sat with him to do his work a couple of times in Primary One. Now he knows what to do when he gets home from school - have lunch, do homework, pack bag, practice drums & wushu, then play. The faster he does his work, the more time he gets to play and read. I spot check the standard of his homework, and look at returned test papers and homework to see if there's anything I need to work with him on. But by and large I let him sink or swim, e.g. if he needs to bring a book to school the next day but forgets, I don't remind him. At best I'll say \"Have you packed finished packing your bag?\"This one I started as early as I can with my DD2.Cos I did mistake with my DS1.Now my DD2 in P1.More responsible in her work and she likes to be independent.

jeanieg:HiCan I check with everyone about the Deposit for a tuition centre's deposit?I just enrolled my kids in a tuition centre (though run in a home) and paid a one month's deposit. I understand that usually this deposit is refundable at the termination of classes with the centre. Is it alright for a centre not to refund? It depends on the basis the deposit was paid (Terms & Conditions), ie. refundable based on requisite notice given, off-set against last month's fees (after requisite notice given) or off—set against non-payment of fees or material fees. If it is non-refundable at all, you should be informed upfront, and it should not be referred to as a deposit, but a registration fee, for example.

lovinglife:sembgal:I never really go calculate how much. Last year my child in K1 had ballet, piano, Chinese speech and drama, phonics, art, Tien Hsia enrichment and Mindstretcher enrichment. These are external enrichment though her school has computer lesson enrichment incorporated. My child likes to attend enrichment and honestly I think it's a bit too much for a K1 child. Nevertheless, if we are going out for a trip to the zoo or beach, we just give the class a miss that week. This year in K2, she still has ballet, piano, art and Tien Hsia enrichment. The rest of the enrichment discontinued at her request. However, I added Hanyu Pinyin class and Mental Arithmetic class for her. In addition, I personally coach my child in all her subjects, English, Math, Chinese and Phonics, not forgetting revising other enrichment homework with her. Thinking of adding swimming and Just Education as my child asked for it. Weird right? My child wants so much enrichment. If she enjoys, I let her go for those enrichment. Come Primary 1, it will be less enrichment for sure.Hi, just curious how you managed your timeslot for every enrichment/programme? I am very similar as you, full of classes  and I had to drop one of the private coaching session in order to have time for other enrichment's revision and homework. Hi, for weekdays - 1 enrichment a day, sometimes 2, depends on whether she wants to go, all enrichment classes are decided by her. Schedule is worked out in such a way that she has 2 off rest days per weekdays schedule.Last year schedule for Weekends- 2 enrichment classes a day, one in morning, one in afternoon. This year, cut down to 1 weekend academic enrichment a day.Reason: She gets time to attend baking classes on weekends at Brillionaire Kids or Genius R Us. Personally, the service and staff at Brillionaire Kids are better than Genius R Us. BrillionairKids a little pricier. My focus is on her penmanship and P1 academic work preparation. If we need to go out on weekends, will skip class.Guiding her in academic work will be done in shorter duration on weekday nights and extended duration on weekends. She gets to have nap before she goes for any weekday enrichment class. This is to ensure she's not sleepy but alert after her kindy class. One point to add: I realised that tuition centres usually copy from assessment books for their worksheets. If you have time to teach your child, go Popular get some assessment books. It's the same. Most importantly, I let my child attend group tuition is to gauge she can sit through in class just like primary students. My child gets to socialise with other children too. But if your child is unsble to sit still and weak academically, better work with your child one to one at home to build up the foundation.
