2013 P1 Registration Exercise for 2014 In-Take

Any idea how many SCs in NH going for balloting?
-
arielle08:
Yes, I had similar concerns and worries seven years ago. I think P1 registration is about taking calculated risks ( of course, if can get into desired school without ballot better still) and having backup plan(s)... And being flexible.
I hope I am not worrying too much. But this is really what I fear most.
Our plan - DC is a dragon boy. This was way before SC had priority over PRs.
Phase 2B - was balloted out even though we had a 2/3 chance of success :scared:
It was due to the \" dragon \" effect. We underestimated it.
Phase 2C - applied with school A - Balloting expected within 1 km. Considered school B in the NEXT neighborhood - more than 2 km but had no balloting in its history. On last day of 2C registration, I was one of the many anxious parents waiting in school B, checking out the vacancies left. DH was stationed in School A - ready to do withdrawal IF school B had sufficient vacancies. About an hour before registration was to close, school B informed that balloting was required for those more than 2 km. The odds were similar in School A and B. We decided to take our chances with School A.
Phase 2CS - decided to do research into the possible schools before the balloting result for phase 2C. I even sent emails to the schools asking for information. Received a few replies and a phone call from a very nice Principal! Narrowed to a few schools.
Result : we got balloted into School A.
We were very very very lucky!!!
Good luck to all parents this year - it's the year of the golden piggies! :xedfingers: Please plan ahead, make an informed choice and don't forget to consider other schools in other neighborhoods too! -
Can anyone share how many people balloting for how many vacancies for maris stella high? MOE website shows balloting needed for SC staying more than 2km

If I am not wrong, is 44 SC out of 2km to ballot for 40 seats. -
Oh My Gosh:
They are trying to convince pple to put their kids in neighbourhood schools instead of competing for popular branded ones. The A*Star scholar is supposed to be an example of someone from a neighbourhood school who made good in life.Sweetbaby456:
For Parents whose children going to P1 next year catch the Red Dot Show (Channel 5) tonight at 9pm.
What's the focus/ topic about? -
To all parents balloting. If your child's ping pong ball number is in the middle of the range, don't forget to give the cage a hard spin or three to mix the balls up real good if you don't want to see a disproportionate number of balls on both ends of the range dropping out of the wire cage! :stupid:
Don't worry about the cage. MOE can afford to buy more.
Good luck all! -

Yes that's what I saw from another forumer. But there were 71 seats and 78 pple applied. So how did it become 44 SCs fight for 40 seats? Unless 3 PRs also applied. -

'No homework day' for school doesn't equate to no homework for kids....haha......
I am not sure of other schools but NCPS has at least improved a bit this year by getting the class teachers to coordinate so that there won't be a day when there is homework from all subjects. Any other schools do that?
:goodpost:gvyong:
Every Wed is 'No homework day' for Ai Tong School.
No wonder everyone wants to get into the school..hahaha..
But I think it's really good..give the poor kids a break
This is a very good practice! Parents should lobby principals to implement at their kids school . Of course , don't say it is from Ai Tong..
Principal of 'good' school also want face..
:rotflmao:
Pls do share more good practice of elite schools

I faced a similar situation as you when I balloted two years back. I believe many parents are in the same shoes with the current Phase system we have. We got in \"School B\" at 50% chance (just like a flip of a coin).Scenario:
Assuming the lesser vacanies a school has in phase 2C, the more popular the school is which is the case in Spore. \t
For example, if the schools in a neighbourhood has the following vacancies:- \t
School A with <10 vacancies \t
School B with <40 vacancies \t
School C with <80 vacancies \t
School D with 150 vacanies \t
\t
I suppose typical SC will try for School B, with some risk takers trying for School A, since SC have priority over PR. \t
So PR will not try School A and B since these will be the schools which SC are fighting for. \t
PR will likely go for School C, get a confirm place in an average school, why not, at least its not the worst. \t
\t
So after the blood shedding Phase 2C and I am balloted out from School A or B. Of course, I will want to join School C in phase 2C supp. \t
But sway sway, this time round, School C is totally taken up by PRs and there are nothing left after phase 2C. \t
I will only left with School D!!!
:frustrated: :stompfeet:
I hope I am not worrying too much. But this is really what I fear most.
All the best to you. -
