Aiyah, where the new IP JC is located is really none of my business. I'm just taken back at some of the arguments thrown forth, and some distorted facts.

#1 Mt Sinai is too far away. We've been promised a JC in Bishan.
-> Nothing was officially made known about the location till early 2014. Whatever \"hearsay\" you heard doesn't hold water.

#2 Mt Sinai not enough LTs. / We don't need LTs.
-> Mt Sinai has enough LTs. JCs need LTs.

#3 Cannot walk fr Buona Vista MRT to Mt Sinai site within 10 mins. 20 mins is not acceptable walking time.
-> But i didn't fly nor run to RJC in the morning. Perhaps i have longer legs? Even if it is 15 mins stroll, you mean our youngsters cannot take it?

#4 No sheltered walkway from MRT to school.
-> How many schools in Singapore have sheltered walkway from MRT right up to the door steps? Granted some have, but not every one has.

#5 IT'S THE DISTANCE! (Yes we heard that loud and clear)
-> Yeah MOE advocates distance. But what have parents been telling MOE? That distance doesn't really matter if it is a good reputable school. Look at the students who attend RI. They don't just stay around TP, Bishan, AMK. They stay in Pasir Ris, Jurong, Sengkang, Marine Parade too. And that is the same for HCI / NJC / VJC / DHS. And since this new IP JC is supposedly going to be another top JC, it's supposedly going to attract students from everywhere.

It looks like whatever solutions is implemented / suggested here will not satisfy the parents unless the JC is back in Bishan. Should just name the new JC \"Bishan JC\".

Since you are not an affected parent, I suppose you will see things differently and will not feel the disappointment and concerns. It is like a Malaysian telling us that the large foreigner population in Singapore is not a major issue whereas we may beg to differ.

It is already a huge challenge to develop a new JC and now with all these uncertainties, it takes a leap of faith and confidence to join the new IP JC. My children are in one of the feeder schools and they like their school tremendously. I am torn between choosing the new JC and a more established IP JC.

Agreed. Those not affected are not in our shoes. They think they know it all

If you can make an honest mistake, so can MOE or LTA or URA or anyone. Why make a big deal out of it?

The authorities should not have made this mistake.

That's why it is a big deal to affected parents and pupils who made their choice based on those information made available then.

We are not talking about 1 mistake. But mistake after mistake..

I am still in utter shock that anyone would actually compare the mistake made by lee_yl, a parent in KSP, with that (or those) made by MOE, URA, LTA.

Hey lee_yl.. You're now in the same league as MOE URA LTA ! πŸ˜“

we were told the site of the new jc since the start of 2014 and the problem here is why it takes them a year to learn that there is a problem with LTA. dont the 2 minstries communicate? LTA takes a year to inform MOE!

It's here. Really here. Not at the end of Mt Sinai.

Too bad, the taxpayers' money don't come to me and luckily for the taxpayers too.

On a more serious note, I am worried that the new IP JC is likely to be off to a rocky start and this does not bode well for its subsequent development. While I still have some time to decide, many parents and their children have already committed in belief of the government's promises. Will be even more unsettling for them.

Just a suggestion for MOE to consider. Since this MT SINAI site is continously used by schools as a relocation premise plus there are future plans to occupy it for other purposes, is it possible to arrange bus shuttle service from MRT directly to school and vice versa to help the students?

I used to take 92 to Science Park. That was 1998 to 1999. It ended ard 7+plus in the evening and did not operate on Sundays. Not sure about now. But can easily verify with SBSTransit website- factual info.

The rocky start for new JC take off & project management breakdown communication between LTA and MOE since last year 2014 had made subsequent batches of students / parents lost confidence. Parents have confidence in each of the 3 Schools' \"O\" level programme, but not so much in the untested, unproven IP programme.

Since New JC not ready, & cracks in project management show up possible causing delay beyond end of 2019, MOE should not implement IP program anymore, from this year batch of 2015 Psle P6 students.
in order to restore confidence, MOE should hold back The IP programme. Wait for the new JC premises to be built, almost ready for occupancy, then resume, continue implementing the IP curriculum programme. For now, put on hold.

                    Reason ?
Due to much uncertainty unforseen circumstances lying ahead, this may possibly lead to a poor demand for IP program from this batch of 2015 Psle candidates, COP can drop, possibly to low.
Subsequent, future batches of parents, upon seeing this low COP, will hesitate to let their kids enrol into this new JC, as they worry about the quality of the intake of IP students, together with a range of uncertainties lying ahead. This can cause the IP programme, to back fire, erode further confidence in future batches of parents.

However, if MOE can wait or hold back IP intake for 2015 Psle batch plus a few batches until the new JC is almost built & ready for occupancy, this help to boost back confidence in P6 parents / students, since they can see with their own eyes that that the premises are ready. Then, the trickle of demand from P6 students wanting to enrol into new JV will slowly return, more children want to come into the new JC, boost up the morale, COP slowly climb up, higher.

Verbally announcing to parents that the JC is ready, by end of 2019, is easy. After all, is all talk only.
But can it really deliver on time, is another big question mark ?
project management across ministries not easy to tackle : if unforeseen challenges suddenly occur, in the midst.

What had caused these to happen, although nobody want it to happen ?
Is the breakdown in project management, working inside the ministries

Regular shuttle bus is more suitable for primary and secondary school students with regular school and dismissal hours. JC kids have irregular hours like uni so shuttle bus is not feasible. Don't see the students as 'school children' may help. I'm also SC parent so don't say I talk rock ok. πŸ¦†

Until the authorities come up with a more tangible plan with regards to the permanent site of the new JC, I doubt a meeting will be arranged to meet the affected parties.

Let’s give the authorities time to meet up and speak to each other, then they can come up with better solutions.

This incident reminds me of the stick of fish ball.
