Thank you to all for your comments and suggestions. I have given her a more expensive gift to express our appreciation, as I am not comfortable with giving a monetary bonus. Will revert back to cookies etc for cny etc, later on.

She is very happy with my son’s results so I don’t think there is any "hidden" intention with the red packet. Nevertheless, I will have a chat with DS on possible inappropriate behaviors between tutors /teachers and students. It’s an appropriate time to do so since he will be going to a new school.

Like for example now Christmas is around the corner, either I baked cookies with kids and ask them to give tutor as gifts or something get a box of choco as a token of appreciation:)

I think better give some stuff which is more memorable for the tutor, rather than additional "bonus". U can give in some special occasion such as teacher’s day. Angpao for CNY is also good idea.

I think giving Ang Paos to tutors may send the wrong signal to tutor and may make for an uncomfortable situation. Giving of gifts for special occasions such as Teacher’s Day or CNY is better and actually should be encouraged as it also shows to DC that the tutor should be appreciated in small ways and not just taken for granted. So by all means give a gift, I think that is a very nice gesture.

Thinking of getting special gifts for tutor for helping DS to achieve the targeted result, what are some suggestions of nice gifts?

I do give gifts for teachers’ day but not for other occasions like Mid Autumn Festival etc.

i give a little ang pao during CNY for tutors…a little gift for teachers’ day.

maybe I should give something small for Christmas.

I baked some brownies for my girl’s math tutor and she loved it.

It was no big deal. I just followed the instructions at the back of the box of brownie mix... 😂
