pirate, we are not referring to only GEP schools. for ALL schools, higher % of prefects come fr the top classes. So good results = got leadership capabilities?

Significantly more girls than boys chosen to be prefects in coed schs. Why? As they are really more guai. But does guai = good leaders? U can take a look at Pei Chun sch thread. One mummy wrote a pretty long post on this biasness.

So how? Choose prefects and monitors from the naughty ones? :scared:

But don't get me wrong hor. Personally, I feel that using \"leadership\" as a criteria for admission to secondary school is BS.

Computerized balloting is better and more transparent. 😉

You'll be surprised how the naughty ones could become well behaved when made the monitors 😉

And there are those who know how to impress teachers but disliked by majority in class who are made prefects. Well, no one would know of course, except those from the class.

Aiyah. The majority of kids are not in GEP schools, where there is no such things as META lah. There are only 9 GEP schools. You guys are all worked up over 9 head prefects and 9 vice head prefects a year?

Doesn't have to be GEP schools. It's the same in neighborhood schools.

Bottom line is, leadership positions are given mostly by teachers based on subjective selection.

If it is not just GEP schools, then leave GEP and META out of it, ok?

I am not even the parent of a child in GEP, but I still found the reference to GEP kids in this instance to be gratuitous pressing of emotion buttons. The point can be made (and has since been better made) without resorting to this.

Overseas U is for the rich kids.
Most people can only afford to go local U. NUS is the best choice. Even local U also have ranking,
For local U, die die must get into RI/HCI for what? Any secondary school also can go to JC/Millenia Institute and then to local U. RI/HCI got 'Get into NUS Free' card meh? :scratchhead:

you are right. There is nothing that is gurrantee or definite when it comes to future.
It is just one's perspective of looking at things.
Consistent hard work and making effort to improve oneself are still important no matter which sec sch/JC you go to.
Going to branded school do not gurrantee success. The 3 parties (student, parents' support and teachers) work hand in hand to ensure good results.
But the peer pressure is always there. One cannot simply ignore that. Even neighbourhood sch also has peer pressure.

I just hope that after doing away with the tscore, MOE do not come up with another formulae to calculate the banding system based the corhort's raw score. If not, it is just back to square one.

Don't know he got selected in the first place . Even then , he can still indicate on his portfolio he was class monitor in xx year ? No one is going know he was only monitor for a term!

And there's a class monitor in my DS's school bus . He's calling kids names and threatens them with \"disciplinary\" action if they do the same to him .

I wonder how they will factor in bonus point for affiliated secondary school in the new scoring band system . Under the current point system, various primary schools have different cut off points with wide range affiliation points advantage . Under the new system , I wonder how it will be determined and will it be uniform across all schools ? Will it result in more people clamouring to go into primary school with affiliation or less ?

Most of the initiatives started well but along the way somehow the Objectives may not be met fully because of execution or people outsmarting the system . Say for IP, it started well with the intention of skipping o level to have more time for enriching courses but somehow it becomes a mean to Chope the places for the TOP jcs via psle. Then it results in all TOP students congregating in the few top schools unlike in the past and IP indirectly added to psle stress . Then we have Dsa and gep that have morphed into another means of choping places again. So let’s wait to see what surprises are in store to set the level playing field again and lessen everyone’s stress.

regarding affliation, one of the 3 possibility will be implemented, closer to 2021 :
                    - MOE may abolish affliation, give chance to every P6 student to enter Secondary schools, based on merit of the new Holistic system implemented,

                    Or

                    - MOE may standardize affliation to x point, for all affliated primary schools to Secondary,

                    Or

                    - MOE decide not to intervene, just let individual school Board control their own affliation policy.

one normally ask : would affliation still exist ? often, as parents we tend to worry for our kids, what if affliation is gone ?

How about view from angle of the school Board ?
would the Secondary school prefer to take in their own affliated students, or prefer to open up to public ?
