Agreed that certain tuition or enrichment centre may only benefit the higher ability students. When dd attended onsponge, her coaches were dedicated and even helped to solve her school questions. Her marks improved from 70s to 90s. Although may not be totally attributed to onsponge, I think at least it helps to improve her confidence and interest.

Hi you are right... but not all centres are the same and the one which i came across are not so clear in explaining the concepts. Based on reviews, i have thought to enrol my child in onsponge to brush up the problem sums.My child did not tell me but seems rather upset n down after each lesson. I feel that they should have been more encouraging instead of putting the child down by not being able to understand the concepts or making mistakes. There are few occasions whereby i came earlier in between lessons and overheard and that is when i know about this.

Can anyone point out the difference between the thinking maths, essential maths and conquer maths books? is there a need to buy the latest editions?

Hi, actually these have been asked before a few pages back in this thread I believe... can't say much for (1). (2) seems like an intro book to me & I only procured a copy cos it wasn't that useful for our needs. (3) is great for questions involving models & \"tricks of the trade\" stuff example excess&shortage. How I see it is that I'd use different materials (textbook questions, past year papers' paper 1 portion perhaps) for the child to practise the rudiments; once the child reaches an A standard of mastery I'd introduce (3). Those practices would push up the marks to a high A or A*. To obtain close to full marks you'd likely require past year papers from certain schools which tend to have trickier questions. I only have 1 Maths assessment book these days - OnSponge Conquer Problem Sums...
Yup, there is a tweak in Maths syllabus (pioneer batch Y2013 P1), Tessellation is no longer taught for instance, so it'd seem better to purchase the latest edition if you're not already familiar with the syllabus. JMHO...
