This year the outcome is ridiculous! So many schools within 1km need to ballot. How much more next year the Dragon year???!

        ChiefKiasu:
The competition at Phase 2C is much more intense as we have anticipated. What is notable is that the number of schools with parents having to ballot under 1km is almost double that of the previous year!

Parents are now much smarter and are moving nearer to the schools just to have a chance to ballot.

For full details, read our https://www.kiasuparents.com/kiasu/article/2017-p1-registration-phase-2c-analysis-and-predictions/.
I don't think it's necessary the case that parents are moving nearer to the schools just to have a chance to ballot. If you dive deeper, there are several schools that are within close proximity: only 1 or 2 schools will be balloting, whereas the others are totally ignored.

This exercise is a good example of a zero sum game theory in play. If you move to a 2nd choice school early, you lose (miss out on the preferred school). However, as long as everyone chooses the same school, no one loses out. So in previous years where there will be movement by the not-so-brave to other schools, these year every one stays put.

Guess every school is a good school mantra isn't working at all šŸ˜‚

So does it mean I have to report for duty earlier next year? :yikes:

Anyway this year some places have more vacancies so when hope is involved, it's becomes marginal between balloting and not balloting, decided like last 10-15mins.

Perhaps next year's increase competition will mean moving along when there is no choice but to do so.

            Hi All!

Unfortunately we fell into the balloting group for those <1km. Registered for FMPS under 2C.
Called the school, was told that 40 SC are balloting for 34 places.
Any advice if there is an appeal channel available for parents wish to appeal if the balloting is unsuccessful?

            TIA!

Your odds are not too bad leh. Many times more winners than losers. The ballot is final. The only thing you can do is to add yourself to the school's wait list. That route does work occasionally.

haha..i know. Just that my luck always not so good when it comes to balloting.
So what's next if we are really the unlucky one who didnt get in. Wait for 2C supplementary phase on the school (2nd choice)?

Must also consider whether the 2nd choice school is within <1km and would be the back-up school for others too.

How will parents know the balloting results for phase 2c?

Either you can choose to attend the balloting session (you will know the results on the spot)...or you can choose to await the snail mail letter that the school will send to you (hopefully before phase 2C(S) starts). Or maybe you can phone and hope they will answer you...

Based on what I understood from a school staff, if you don't stand a chance or need balloting, the school will probably have already contacted you.
If not, the school should be sending out the snail mail to you sometime this week.
