      janet88:

Chances of getting into either Kellock or OLQP are higher than Henry Park which is in the red for balloting within 1km for SC.

Thanks for that input. So it is the correct way to read the table? Red for previous years high chance of ballot (wd say definite) and its actually “safer” to go for a green over subscription risk school thou outside of 2km vs red within 1km?

I try to be specific to your case.
I presume you are within 1km of HPPS and >2km of Kellock and OLQP

For Kellock and OLQP, for now 2C should be safe for >2km.
For HPPS - it looks likely to have a range of 1.5-2 applicants per vacancy at 2C - will you be able to bear with this risk? - its important you set a threshold.

For 2Cs - OLQP still look okie while Kellock will be very near to full point (may need balloting)

Say if you don't want balloting at all cost, then choose between Kellock and OLQP

If you can bear with the risk and HPPS is first choice, set a risk threshold (how many applicants versus vacancies) and if the threshold is breached, move on to your second choice within 2C phase.

Backup choice for 2Cs should be OLQP safer

hope its clear enough, we need the phase 2A and 2B phase to be over to have a better picture.

If you have choices under 2A or 2B, do consider.

Thank you! So what is the best way to register at a school but withdraw and register at a new school if the walk-in applicants start adding up quickly on day 3. Practically speaking. Register at one school first but then pull the registration if looking unlikely to land a spot — and have a parent at the other school with the documents ready to register there? How long would that registration process take with the school admin? 10 minutes?

I did the “withdrawal” method and regretted, because it takes time to process the withdrawal. Just wait at both schools (1 parent each) before deciding, then do the application at your chosen school. Give yourself time for travel in case the parent holding the originals needs to rush over. Usually 3pm is already cutting it a bit tight.

        Hi Zac's mum,
In the end did u managed to get into the 're-registered' sch?
This strategy is really heart attack becoz what happens if after u withdrew from sch 1 then travel back to sch 2. During this time lapse the number of applicants at sch 2 might increase within that 1 to 2hrs?

Withdrawal or application physically at the admin counter…as with any government/civil service counter…it is always, you know, never as quick as you want. It could be 10 min, it could be 15-20 min. It is not a fast food restaurant. It also depends on the Q of people before you. Have you ever waited at ICA to collect your passport? Or to see a GP? Similar…no one can really gauge how fast.

What u can control at your end is, prepare the necessary photocopies at your end. Then the staff does not need to walk into their office and zap copies for you. You also need to give yourself time to fill up the hard copy form. The staff needs time to verify your postcode in the OneMap system also.

 Nan Hua Primary is great!! At least parents applying to the sch can get the updates from the sch website itself.. If only all schs are like Nan Hua!!

Agree. Can help anxious parents to guage their decision. Sch admin also not so hectic need to pick up many calls from the public.

Erhm, ladies, MOE online registration no need to walk away & photocopy anymore?

Even ICA cut yr queue painful wait, u can do online now. Just announced last week also. Govt all improving customer experiences & super efficient with our internet age.

So, u sit tight at home & wait to hear if u need to ballot. No distraction of what’s my q no coz everyone will be registered fairly. No need to standby separately as husband & wife to make lighting speed decision which to withdrawal & which to register.

Oh my! It sounds like a painful process. But glad to know your child successfully gained admission into your school of choice.

In my opinion, all these hassle just to register a child for a primary school is not worth it. But different folks, different strokes.

Yes I did. DH scooted over on his PMD with the original ICs because the 2 schools aren’t that far apart.

Yes, this method is really subjecting yourself to heart attack, so pls give yourself plenty of time buffer. And yes, the number can jump up during that time too. DH was not the only person rushing from school A to school B. He ran in together with 2-3 other people. Tensions are high, so don’t play this game if you don’t really need to.

The nan hua statistics are very good. I wish all schools have this service.

Primary school years as impt if not impt bcoz u're helping yr gal lay her learning foundation. Watch her enjoy learning, encourage her as she make small gains & into bigger leaps. All these takes time. As u see her negotiate diff hurdles help her along yourself or get appropriate help.

Once yr Pri sch formula set in her system, u've less to worry. Our aim as parents is to help them learn to fish so we don't hv to keep doing the fishing & feeding. You'll then soon see her independent & fulfilled also as a parent when yr girl soar through sec sch.

                        All the best!
